Our Old style Kriek with cherries of the Schaarbeek variety is a variation of our Old Kriek. This beer is made with 100% organic Schaarbeek cherries, all grown ourselves. This type of cherries is becoming ever more rare, when they used to be omnipresent in the region for the production of Old Kriek. So we decided to start growing these ourselves on a couple of fields close to the brewery. The entire cherries are fermented in oaken barrels in lambic beer of at least one year old. After six months this transforms into Old Kriek with about 400 grams of cherries per liter of beer. Because of the second fermentation in the bottle, which carbonates the beer, you obtain a delicately soft taste and the distinctive foam head. A true delight for all senses with an harmonious balance between sweet and sour, and of course the added authenticity of the one and only Pajot kriek. Schaarbeek cherries are ever more scarce, which is a pity. After all, it is the original cherry variety for the fruit beers of the region.

750mL bottle at DHVL. Pours murky red with no head. Slightly musty red cherries on the nose. Flavour has slightly tart red cherries, some must, a bit of funk. Not as carbonated as I'd expect from a blended lambic, but the funk there is nice.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy amber orange, no head. Aroma has dry cherry skins, a touch of earthy funk, and gentle acidity. Flavour has dry, tart cherries, some musty cherry skins, and dry earthiness. Fairly dry, but with a touch of residual sugars. If I were to guess, I'd have said this was not back-blended. Still very good.

6/II/24 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 6/XI/41, lot: 20211108 (2024-79)

Pretty clear deep ruby red beer, no head. Aroma: very dirty, funky, urinals, then after a while in the glass the fruit starts opening up, nice cherries, almonds, and quite some vinegar as well. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, lemony, cherries, very acidic, a little bitter, some tannins, a bit watery, earthy, grape skins. Aftertaste: some red wine, woody, bitter, earthy, dry, tannins in the finish.

Clear red no head. Sweet cherry taste. Not so much cherry pit which is good. Sweet and sour profile.

2021 750mL bottle at SP line share, 9/29/23. Bit of haze in this cherry meat-colored beer. No head. Nose has plentiful cherry, nicely macerated. Sort of a hard lactic edge to the lambic. Not at all bright. Softish, hard lactic, cheese rind. Did this bottle get stirred up? Likely. It's very muted but also the carb is off. Not tight at all. Cherry is interesting but super dry and leathery. Needs some softness/roundness from somewhere. But it's not problematic in any way acidity wise. Just a lot of lactic acidity.

Pours unclear, dark redamber. No real head. Scent is full, cherries (swiming pool, which always seems to be in great schaarbeekse cherry lambics ) . Almond touch, Taste is tart, sharp, very woody. Almond aspect even more pronounced than the actual cherry. Lovely smooth cherry features. Some vanilla, even.
