A pohjala barrel aged porter for a Saturday evening. This pours black with a very small head. Aroma is prunes, fig, toffee, molasses, burnt sugar, dark malts, chocolate, light smoke and booze. Full body. Flavour is rich and sweet, yet not sticky, or overtly rich - extremely drinkable at the abv. Complex dark malts, chocolate, prune and cola, light tobacco and peat - Islay is here, if not too pronounced - and just a tad bitter. Beautifully balanced, with a Islay whisky finish. Excellent, such a drinkable BA porter that just oozes quality.

A black beer, a head is quite small and brown. Aroma has liquorice and dried fruitness, then also nicely balanced barrel and wood. Taste has dried fruitness, raisin, prune, light liquorice and smokyness, hint of barrel. Full bodied. Balanced, nice and enjoyable.

Happy Baltic Porter Day! While not a Baltic Porter in style, it's a porter made on the coast of the Baltic Sea so shut up. Sherry, Cognac, and Islay barrels. Bottled 14 months ago. Great supermarket find!

Black with dark creamy head. Aroma is quite sweet. Some dried fruits and some sweetened coffee. Flavour has lots of dried fruits, probably from the sherry barrels. Even quite jammy. Not very much of the Islay but there's a gentle smokey, leathery note in the aftertaste.

Classy looking bottle (except for the wax). Started about 12C and it warmed a little too much. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of heavy roast, some seaweed, mocha, soy sauce, welsh cakes. Syrupy, low carbonation. Taste follows aroma - a bit of licorice and caramel too. Some peppery oak at the somewhat bitter end. Quite fruity hops (peach, honeydew melon) somehow register there. Wouldn't have guessed any Sherry but Cognac is surprisingly noticeable despite the stomping Islay.

Waxed, capped bottle from Corti Bros. Pours dark brn/blk with a transient dark tan smear. Aroma of peat, brandy and very dark/burnt malt. Med body. Flavor is brandy, sherry, a touch of peat smoke, a hint of wood astringency. Not dry. Arguably a bit sourish. Very subtle heat. Extremely tasty ale.
