can, hoptimaal deluxe calendar #8 Pours dark brown but not black. brown head. nutty roasted malty aroma, english licorice, oxidized boozy nose from the barrel, it all giving notes of cocnut and brown choclate cake, aroma is quite complex, the individual parts well mixed together, hard to take apart. Very tasty, slightly smoked malty, lots of roasted malts, finer nuances from the barrelling which seem to have worked extremely well, licorice and coffee notes are faint but add to complexity, barrelling is also just adding subtle notes, not overpowering the balance and complexity. This is a very very good example of a well done barrelling project. The end is flavorful yet rounded, aftertaste is roasted malty, faint toasted wood. Very well done BA imp stout. For once not a pastry stout, gives you an opportunity to actually taste the basic results of the brewing process. I especially like the balance between charred wood, smoked malts, both are there, but not enough to unbalance the whole thing. good stuff.

(Draught at Taplokaal Gist, Utrecht, 16 Feb 2023) Black colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted, vinous nose with black coffee, cacao, black bread, oak wood and liquorice. Malty, roasted, vinous taste with notes of sweet espresso, black bread, liquorice, oak wood, cognac and a mild roasty bitterness in a warming, slightly boozy, finish. Full body, quite sweet. Tasty and powerful, with a generous wood character. Very nice.

Can opens with beer jumping out of it - in my face... Pours black with a dense brown head with pretty good retention. Aroma''s: dark sugar syrup, boozy, umami, fruity alcohol. Retronasal the alcohol is a bit too pronounced, almost like spiritus/green apples, still with some dark sugar and umami/wood. Flavour is above moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Alcohol is a bit sharp. Long finish, some bitterness, woody.

Borefts XII. Day 1. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark chocolate malts, dark chocolate Malteasers. Barrel Aged goodness. Tastes like bourbon and cognac. Light semi dry spicy finish. Rather nice.

Tap. Black color with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, wood, cognac indeed, pretty rich and balanced. Taste is quite cognac forward, prunes, a bit sweet, mild roasted malts, mild booze in the back. Very good!
