Aroma of java. Creamy palate that pours black with some mocha head and some lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate. Taste has some bitterness. Alcohol well-hidden. Really great stuff. Bottle thanks to Tomthompson.

From the February 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small soapy tan head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma was Windex, coffee, perfume and touches of anise and port wine. The flavor was port pine, wood, brewed coffee, cocoa, anise, perfume and wood. Long finish of coffee ,wood and port wine. Medium body though a touch undercarbonated. Solid.

12 oz. bottle, sent from tstockstrom (thanks Chuck), pours a very dark brown / near-black with a small tan head. Aroma features lots of coffee notes upfront, with secondary notes of roasted malt - not getting any bourbon barrel at all. Flavour brings out the barrels more, with coffee, moderately prominent bourbon barrels, and a slightly sour / acetic note finishing off the palate, which seems unintended (in terms of craftsmanship, not that the bottle is infected). Palate is more like a porter, due to its thinness. Quite low complexity, with the sourness being quite problematic. Very flawed, but drinkable.

2012 vintage in a 12oz. bottle; thanks to Tripplebrew. Snifter had lots of off white fizzy head that died rapidly. Tiny ring of head left in the wake. Nice lace for the little head that remained. Nose is lots of organic coffee with some chocolate. Taste was coffee, wood /oak, hints of vanilla and the light bourbon nuances in at the finish. The main flavor is the coffee beans. No ABV detectable what so ever. Texture has an oily, slick feel. As with the normal bourbon barrel stout, the body was on the lighter side. Really the only flaw. If it had more body, it would be exceptional.

12 ounce bottle. 2012 vintage. Opague black brown color. Small tan head. Rich cocoa malt aroma with hints of oak, bourbon, cherries and smoke. Tangy roasted malt flavor. More chocolate and cherries, some coffee-like notes, some oak, some vanilla bean. . Surprisingly, very little alcohol noticeable. Some hops in finish. Good, but not great.

Shared this particular brew at about 4:30 am on Dark Lord Day. What a way to start the day. Well, the lighting was so dim, it’s hard to really say the color of it, but it was certainly dark, with a light (or tan) head. Aroma was heavy on the coffee notes, with notes of roasted malts. Flavor was coffee, chocolate, vanilla, roasted. Very enjoyable.
