Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberly, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style trippel. Brewed in the traditional manner, Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale.

19.2 ounce can - hotel beer in Austin, TX - clear gold - rough rendition, with harsh phenols and bitterness - moderately sweet - a bit chalky - I suppose I should give it some credit for being a tripel available in cans at a cheap price point - but I won’t.

Clear gold with a rich white head. Bready and sweet esters. Sweet and bready, touch of peppery notes and a bit of bubblegum. Fine.

Bottle from Ericandersnavy, thanks! Golden color with a slight haze. Citrus, alcohol, dust and a hint of grass in the aroma. Nutmeg. Sweetish, alcoholic flavor with melon and peach. Hops and nutmeg unvealing themselves especially in the aftertaste. Solid tripel, maybe a bit too sweet.

12 oz. Christmas present from Texas. Pours a hazy yellow color with a white head and good retention. Lots of carbonation. Fair lacing. Belgian yeast aroma. Belgian yeast flavor dominates. Tastes like a witbier. Soft mouthfeel. No thanks. I just don't like this style. At least the 8.1% ABV and 36 IBU are well hidden.
