Unusually light, agile, yet complex, Unicorn hasn’t changed in over a hundred years. It was originally brewed by Frederic for his father William, at the Unicorn Inn, from where the beer eventually took its name, and where the Robinsons Brewery still stands. Dripping with heritage, it’s a magnificent, thirst-quenching, thoroughbred bitter. The first of a bloodline that continues to this day.

On tap @ the Ship Inn, Chester. Pours golden to amber with a decent head. The nose is of malt, citrus and some caramel. The taste is a little fresher with dominant notes of lemon and toffee. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a fairly clean finish. Overall a solid pale ale.

Half pint, cask ale at Castle Hotel. Creamy, white head covering a clear amber coloured body. Aroma of leafy hops. Caramel malts well blended with fruity hops, hint of anise, too. Bittersweet tail. Nice Brit bitter (Manchester, 04.07.2012).

Cask. Vinous, woody sourish flavour to start off. Turns a bit sweeter with some slightly strange citrus fruit notes. Finishes with an OK citric aroma hop. A bit messy, but OK.
