A real classic, Belhaven’s St Andrews Ale is inspired by the great Scottish invention – golf. It’s simple really – a truly great beer, great balance and great flavours. The pale malt gives a biscuity and Horlicks note and the crystal malt adds toffee and caramel. Challenger and Goldings hops give a clean bitterness and fresh dry hop character which balances the sweet malt and the warmth from the alcohol. A warming, malty brew.

Bottle from Waitrose. Appearance - deep amber, fluffy white head, frantic bubbles. Nose - caramel mainly, hazelnuts maybe. Taste - loads of toffee, nuts again too. Palate - light to medium bodied. Tangy sweet, middle section, a touch drier on the finish, but still quite sweet. Overall - ok, but too sweet to go back for more.

From old tasting notes. Bright copper hue topped by a thick creamy beige head. Soft caramel malt nose. Toffeeish malt flavor with an underlying smokiness upfront. Creamy malt finish hints at bitter hops.

Cask @ The Moorings, Sowerby Bridge. Deep amber coloured ale with a small creamy head and a glow. Has some lightly stewed fruits within a smooth tasting texture.

On keg in Linlithgow - Deep clear mahogany body with a small beige head leaving a rim of lace. Nose is a little buttery, some mild hops, and a bit of grass. Taste is creamy although a bit watery. Bit standard.
