This is a pretty big deal for us, working with Manchester’s J.W Lees who were founded all the way back in 1828. Known for their impeccable real ales, we’ve worked together to create a fresh and breezy Golden Ale, taking inspiration from Hopback Brewery’s ‘Summer Lightning’. A base of Maris Otter malt with a touch of Crystal malt for seasoning combined with a healthy dose of UK Challenger from small batch Kentish hop growers and a touch of Citra swirl together to bring a full bodied harmony of bright springy flavours.

440ml can from Chez Sophie. Pours clear deep gold, good rocky white head. Aroma of gently sweet malt. Wonderfully presented flavour profile of largely sweet malt with gentle caramel glimpses and bitter biscuity moments. Lovely.

Cask at the North Brew bar, Birmingham, 18/02/23. Clear golden copper with a decent just off white head. Nose is dried fruits, biscuit, caramel, light floral notes, bready tones. Taste comprises caramel, bready notes, toasted grains, herb, straw, hint of orange peel. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close semi drying close with a mellow bitter edge. Golden by name but not style ... a golden bitter, not an RB golden blonde, sometimes you need to taste a beer to understand and relate the style. Solid cask affair.
