A few times a year we cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again.

A complex and intriguing original. The mystery began with wild yeast spontaneously fermenting a rich treasure of malted barley and cherries. Unlined Oak casks breathe deep vanilla hues and chords of smoke into this sour brown ale. Our Master Brewer has forged a smooth garnet tapestry that defies description. Wander off the beaten path.

Big thanks to Sean for cracking this! Poured a cloudy light red with a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice sour cherry note with a strong backing of biscuit and sweet grains. Flavor began sour with cherries with a growing biscuit and cereal note that leads to a sweet finish.

12oz bottle, Batch 1. Pours a translucent copper amber with a spitty, beige head. Nose is cherry juice, yeast, malt, sweet dough. Flavor is more cherry, sweet, a little light oak, yeast, spice. Finish is full bodied, fruity but amped up on the sweetness.

Bottle from allendodd. Many thanks. I love the unavailable. Pours garnet with a finely foamed off-white head. Mildly sour aroma - like apple. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is beautifully, mildly sour. Followed by apple and cherry. Tickles the rear undersides of the tongue. Mouth smacking. Wood, kandi, maybe cinnamon. Or not. Fan fuckin tastic. Notice how taste and tastic kind of relate? Here they do.

Bottle thanks to Optigon: Poured a chocolate brown with an off white thin head. The aroma is sour fruit with oak. Taste is a mix of bitter fruits and malts, there is some woodsy oak in it as well. Very fine sour ale.

Bottle thanks to thanks to zathrus13. Pours a muddy deep brown with a foamy off-white head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is tart, but there is a sweetness, with vanilla, cherries, oak, brown sugar, cookie dough. Taste is not as sour as the nose would let on. Citrus, some fresh pineapple, cherries, lots and lots of vanilla, and maybe some maple syrup. Water like mouthfeel, light bubbles, and a decent amount of warming.

12oz bottle, courtesy of Sloth. Thanks man! Pours a thick, muddy brown-red color. Wow. I’ve haven’t sampled much of the New Glarus line but this beer has me eager to do so. Thick, meady, sweet cherry aroma. The taste is full and rich, a perfect merging between cherry and malt. Incredibly drinkable for 7%. Oaky vanilla complexities in there as well. Wild yeast flavors are well balanced out. This is one of the best Cherry/Sour beers I’ve ever had.

Courtesy of Gillard. Thanks buddy. Pours mildly hazy with brownish body and thin off white head. The aroma starts fruity tart with a bowl full of tangelos where a couple have already gone bad and molded. I also get some grassiness and faint sweet cherries. The taste is much sweeter and smoother than the aroma led on with sweet fruitiness from ripe cherries, plums, ripe sweet raspberries and then a bit of tart cherry fruitiness. It slowly moves more and more tart as the taste progresses on toward the finish with tart fruitiness. It ends smooth and delicious with some tartness and fruitiness riding deep into the after taste carrying some mild malt base flavors.

Original batch. 12 oz. bottle very generously given to me by tjthresh. Pour is a slightly hazed golden orange, bronze with not much tan head to speak of and visible tiny carbonation bubbles. Initial aroma is vanilla, oak and sour. Very much a cherry sour. Beneath the vanilla, oak and cherry is some interesting spiciness. Very complex and engaging nose. Taste is sour cherries, vanilla oak woodiness, a hint of lemons and the spices from the nose. The finish is fairly drawn out, and is quite earthy - like fallen leaves. There is also a Black Cherry soda taste to the finish. As this warms, the complexity really comes out, as does the oakiness. The sourness is fairly subdued after the initial sip. Big palate, very mouth coating. On other sours this would have been annoying, but with this one it was nice. This one was a real treat, thank you for giving me this bottle, so many months ago, Tom.
