An award-winning cask conditioned traditional dark mild. Well balanced malt and hops gives a pleasant aroma and taste, with splendid roasted bitter flavours.
Black Dog is a traditional dark mild at 3.6% ABV. It has many CAMRA awards to its name and is a well-known brand in the free-trade. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour.
The use of crystal malt and roast barley give a deep underlying characteristic flavour, which is balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.

Bottle from Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road. Dark brown, clear. Not a lot of head but some visible carbonation on the top. Smell of malt, some woodland berry, earthy hop. Sweet chocolatey taste with a slight fruity bitterness at the end. Slight body. A pretty good mild.

Bottle from Waitrose, Stevenage. Very dark with next to no head. Mild with its lightly sweetened dark malts in its taste, with a few roasted ones available in its nose.

Bottle from Waitrose in Rickmansworth, Herts. Poured a dark ruby colour with no lasting head, kinda looked like a cola. Aroma of dried fruit and some light burnt malt. Oily flavour with grainy malt. Very light mouth feel. Finishes with some burnt sugar, cola and coffee. As I recall the cask version (if you can get a well kept example) is far nicer.

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is lightly roasted, and the flavour is bitter with good roastedness and some molasses. Overall a very nice mild. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Bottle) Clear dark ruby with thin beige head. Aroma of dark toffee or treacle with smoky and hoppy notes. Medium bodied and quite fizzy. Flavour of roasted malts with some smokiness. A very nice mild.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before Feb 2008, drank April 2007. Very surprised to see this in bottle form, and in London, so I bought two bottles. Poured into a pint โ Old Speckled Henโ vase type glass. The beer looked fantastic, deep ruby black with a fine biege head of foam. The aroma is of roasted and toasted malts, they overpower anything and everything else that may be trying to get into the air. The taste is fine, again the burnt malt flavours take over. This isnโt delicate, this is a proud dark mild. Sadly the mouthfel lets it down somewhat, not watery, but not as lasting or powerful as you would expect from the initial taste. Glad I found it in bottle form, I must have a cask one again soon. One of the best dark milds around in the UK.

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-brown with a medium, creamy tan head. Some lightly toasted cocoa in the aroma. Light sweet flavor, some sweet, dark bread, faint roast and cocoa. Light bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Lightly dry to finish, some mild ash and tobacco, light roast and cocoa, hints of burnt sugar. Itโs alright.

A good example of a true english mild. Excelent rosted malt flavour coming true in a smooth slightly sweet way. Careful hopping adds a little fruity edge.
