Bottle at home, 19th May 2023, pours. Dark brown almost back, with a large tan head. Aroma is cocoa, roasted malts and spruce. Taste is bitter, cocoa, chocolate and roasted malts, citrus and aromatic. Not bad, but not as exciting as Kernel original Black IPA by a long way.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up From the brewery taproom. Pours fairly clear brown with a tight, creamy mocha cap. Light to medium sweet with lovely restrained dark malt sweetness, cocoa, pine, orange peel, pithy grapefruit, a little ash and coffee. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Ideally balanced to finish, more grapefruit, soft cocoa and roast, toasted pine. Monstrously drinkable.

Bottle ordered from Clapton Craft. Aroma has smokey coffee with a herbal bitterness. Opaque dark brown. Thick foamy light beige head. Medium-heavy bitter with a citrus sour streak. Resin and herbs. The coffee is in there, as well as liquorice. Light-medium body. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Well hopped BIPA.

Solid CDA.

Keg at The George & Monkey, somewhere in deep London. It pours darkest brown to black with a small khaki head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, peachy, mango, nectarine, fruit salad, candy, peach cobbler, roasted malt and cacao. The taste is dry, toasty, charred, pleasing bitterness which lingers... woody, nutty, cacao nibs, twist of orange peel, mango, Terry's chocolate orange, dull coffee, nutty, praline and charred pine with a drying, bitter - toasty finish. Lighter end of medium body and fine+ carbonation. Feels very kernel... Like a dark APA. Moreish.

18th April 2023
Almost clear dark amber - brown beer, small tan head. Palate is light and fairly smooth, reasonable fine carbonation. The dark malts are naturally a little thin but flavoursome with a soft chocolate, a little cream and plenty of that Kernel dark malt fruity tang. The C hops bring ripe orange, trace of orange blossom and last gasp juicier brighter orange. Finishes light and semi dry. Nice beer. To me, very reminiscent of the Double Porters but lighter and brighter. I still prefer the richness of the DP but this is an easy drinking affair and I suspect will become a popular one..

Tight creamy off white head on a near black finely carbonated body. Medium bodied, foamy dry & clean. Malt, pine, caramel, grapefruit & bitter citrussy tastes. Excellent.
