Sampled at marinaro500’s post-Thanksgiving gathering, provided by BBB63. Cloudy yellow-orange body, medium off-white head. Very perfumey, sour aroma with lemon and spices (yarrow or other Apiaceae), peppery. Sour and quite spicy body with pineapple, perfume, yarrow, and flower petals. Had a front-of-the-tongue sharpness I didn’t detect in the d’Ete. Fantome beers remind me of aborted Tripels with heavy spicing. That’s a good thing, BTW.

BBF Bottle. Pours a honey orange, with light brown notes and yellows. Pretty dark for a saison. Small head. Aroma of dry, musty hay, tons of soily hops and earthy, hemp, nutty dry parmasan cheese and light citrus notes on the end. You know this stuff’s gonna be good just smellin it. Flavor definitely delivers. It is about as powerful as the Pissenlit, tons of yeast, tons of character, but what it lacks is acidity and that’s a good thing. Nutty, dry, light barley notes with an easygoing sourness (or so I thought). Finishes more like a meal, with so many flavors, lots of grains and funk. Slightly reminiscent of Saison de Pipaix in its cheese and nut appeal and very earthy tones overall, but nowhere near the amount of cheese bacteria of Pipaix. Maybe a touch light in body and a touch of thinning on the end. Great stuff though.

Cloudy golden with high carbonation, creating a large, well-sustained, fizzy head - very strong aroma fills the room upon pouring, pungent, musty, cellared, hay, damp earth, slight fruits and a funkiness like mild, well-aged cheeses - taste is initially very sour, with lemon predominant, a touch of grapefruit - mild spices in the middle, with just a touch of hops to compliment them - sourness eventually subsides, making way for some grainy malts and an odd but enjoyable finish that tastes much like the mild cheese in the aroma - I never thought I would find anything cheese-like in a beer enjoyable, but, there you go - quite dry overall, champaign-like - another interesting offering from Fantome.

Hazy orange coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of hay, grass, tart apples and some other fruits. Light-bodied; Tart flavour that fades very fast, no prolonged sweetness. Apple flavour in the aftertaste, not so much else. Overall-nice, but not as flavourful as the other saisons. I brought and sampled this 75 cL bottle at the May RB Party in Toronto, Ontario purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. This was sampled on 15-May-2004.

An unclear dark orange beer with a fine orange head. The aroma is sour with notes of yeast and oranges. The flavor is dominated by yeast but also has notes of coriander.

Mild barnyardy aroma, slight leather. Wheaty. Light and dry flavor. Cleaner and perhaps more boring than other Fantomes and many saisons, but still curious and unique.

Very cloudy beige. Funky, spicy, sour aroma - you know this is Fantome right away. Lightish, flowery (chamomile), funky and acidic. Probably one of the more straightforward Fantomes but quite delicious nonetheless. A statement in understatedness.

Citrus, peaches and yeast for the nose. Cloudy orange creamy head for the eye. Fruit (oranges), a bit bubblegum and spice for the palate. Prickling dry mouthfeel, light to medium body, slightly bready aftertaste.

Dull orange coulour, yeast in suspension. Thick deposit on bottom. Orangey head, too. Yeast and spices whilst pouring. Fresh citrussy smell. Taste is at first fresh citrussy, going over orange rind to bitter herbs, shrubbery. Finer finish, tingling. I cannot find much malt - or body for that matter. Very refreshing, yes - the taste and carbonation help. The whole character is directed towards a summer ale - which is probably why the label shows an Ardennes snowscape... or it wouldn't be Prignon for real.
