Czech Mates is a Czech Style Lager brewed in collaboration with the state-owned Budweiser Budvar Brewery in the Czech Republic. This is the first official collaboration with a brewery outside of their home country and we are incredibly proud to have this honour. The beer is brewed using the Budvar yeast strain and the Budvar decoction method of brewing, but uses English malt and hops for an English twist. Be prepared for this to be your summer go-to lager!

Hops - Goldings
Malt - Low Colour Maris Otter, Crystal, T50 Malts

Can. Pretty much a clear gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Softish malts, a light creamy sweetness. Decent lager tang coming through loud and clear in the mid. Soft and slightly sweet piney hop. Modest ripe citrus. Smooth finish. Pretty easy drinking but I wanted a deal more crispness and a lot more noble hop bite.

440ml can from Thornbridge Beer Club - Clear gold, solid white top. Lots of biscuity notes here, good spicy hop taste, clean finish. As good as any lager type thing I've had.

Can. Thornbridge subscription box. Clear gold. Thin but firm white foam. Sourdough-ish bready lightly fruited tea loaf malts behind gently herbal fruity spicy hop leaf. Super crisp and clean. Good body with foamy carbonation. Light linger of bitterness to finish. Literally took four gulps for the can.

Large foamy white head left a froth on a well carbonated slowly carbonating body - close to style. Grain & malt aroma. Medium bodied, soft smooth & creamy with a lively back. Sweet, malt, biscuit & bready tastes with a lightly hopped tangy finish. That's such a good lager.
