When the loveable "hopheads" at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse requested a winter version of alehouse favorite Sockeye Red IPA, our brewers instinctively spawned CoHoHo Imperial IPA.
CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill while juniper berries heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of orange zest, grapefruit, orange rind, pineapple, lemon zest, juniper, floral, light pine, caramel, honey, brown sugar, grass, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of malt and hop notes. Taste of big orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, orange rind, lemon zest, juniper, floral, grass, caramel, honey, brown sugar, pine, and herbal earthiness. Moderate amount of citrus bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, juniper, floral, caramel, honey, brown sugar, grass, pine, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor balance and complexity; with a great balance of malt/hoppiness; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent DIPA. Very nice hop and malt flavor balance and complexity; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle - Honey, sugar and bread on the nose. Clear amber with a nice rich head. I get the hoppy bitterness and sweet notes from the malts and honey. Tastes much more like a hopped red than anything else.

Clear dark brown beer. Short lived frothy white head. Fresh pineapple hop nose. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Fresh sweetish hops - pineapple and a little peach. Sweetness from the brown sugar and some fruitiness which must come from the juniper I guess. Finishes fresh and with a few minerals. Lovely sweet IPA.

Taste is sweet, bitter and tiny metallic with oily pine, burnt caramel, dark sweet bread, brown sugar, red currants, lemon balm, kiwi fruit, resinous wood, orange peal, grass and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is slightly smooth, oily bitter, tiny sticky sweet and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, oily pine, orange peal and alcohol.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing a bottle. Pours a deep amber-orange color with a medium fluffy white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops and caramel malt in the nose. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character and notes of grapefuit, sweet malt and caramel. The finish is hoppy with a citrus aftertaste. Above average overall.
