When the loveable "hopheads" at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse requested a winter version of alehouse favorite Sockeye Red IPA, our brewers instinctively spawned CoHoHo Imperial IPA.
CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill while juniper berries heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer.

Bottle, home. An amber, reddish DIPA with a nice beige head. The aroma is mostly a pretty standard grapefruit hoppiness. There’s just a touch of sweet sugars and maybe some juniper, but I could be imagining that. The flavor is also a bit one-note - almost entirely hop bitterness. The beer is rather dry. I think that I’d like this beer more without the brown sugar and honey. The flavor is rather harsh, possibly the result of these simpler sugars. I had high hopes for this beer and come away fairly disappointed.

On draft at City Beer in SF for beer week. Pours a deep amber with a big light tan head. Sweet floral nose with surprisingly low hops. Nice mid-full mouthfeel with some cabonation at the end and little yeast. Does not taste like a double IPA, but is well rounded and tasty. Some caramel notes and lots of piney hops come through on the finish with long lingering bitterness.

Bottle with thanks to scruzzz. Pours fairly dark... Reddish copper with a sudsy head and aromas of double IPA goodness. Caramel and light brown sugar, resin and citrus. Flavor is like a caramel coated Christmas tree. Yum!

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours deep copper with white head. The aroma is a pleasing mixture of pine hops, resiny hops and thick malts that smell sort of chewy. The taste mirrors the nose somewhat. I get full resiny pine hop bitter goodness flowing to and through a thin layer of rich sweet maltiness. The hops are big and play well against the modest sweet malts. Yum. It ends somewhat sweet with lingering pine hoppiness fading into the background and yet somehow urging you on to take another drink. I will.

Bottle: Deep and pure amber pour with a large, creamy beige head. Aroma is intense and swirls through the room with citrus and caramel sweetness. Upon a deeper sniff reveals the thick pine notes. Flavor is plentiful with malts, caramel, citrus, and earthiness. Bits of florals. Nice sweet bitters in the tail. Full bodied and very enjoyable.

Aroma is not overly strong, seems floral, maybe a bit of citrus. Reddish amber color with a beige head that stays awhile. Medium bodied. Creamy carbonation. The hop is not super strong, and seems to be be citrus. There is medium roasted malt sweetness. The impact overall is a bit harsh rather than smooth. Nice retention of bitter into the finish, but it may never be very balanced at any one point. Finish is not all that dry at first. Very nice impression though. Heat is never very noticeable. Leaves the palate fairly clean.

Bottle Pours a clear deep chestnut color. rather darker than I expected. Very big, thick creamy off-white head with lots of blocky persistant lacing. Aroma is malty and woody. Hops are definately there but not very bright or citrusy. Flavor is big and lots of rich deep malt flavor. A bit ddissapointed on the hoppiness. Or lack of. Some bitterness is there but cant quite counter the malt profile. Likely I have a several month old bottle that has faded a bit in this area. ABV is noticeable but appropriate for the big flavor and the big rich heavy palatte. Feels great going down. Creamy and soft with just the right modest carbonation. Nice big beer.
