When the loveable "hopheads" at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse requested a winter version of alehouse favorite Sockeye Red IPA, our brewers instinctively spawned CoHoHo Imperial IPA.
CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill while juniper berries heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer.

65 cL bottle (sample). Orange, white head. Aroma hops. Taste becomes _almost_ soapy from these. Malty and bitter as well. Long lasting bitterness

I just got this from Liquid Solutions with my FFTW order. Dec 2003 bottle! I will re-rate when I get a fresh one. Huge creamy tan head over a deep amber body. Malty rich aroma with the vestiges of a big piney presence. Now, this is very much like a Big Hoppy Monster, dark and malty with lots of hops that serve in a supporting, not dominant role. Still lots of hops, but the malt is coming through from the aging. Sweet, with a touch of spice. No longer hop heavy as it might have once been. Full and smooth bodied.

I can see the headline now: Busy beer label causes seizures in beer geek., and don’t get me started on the tacky salmon reference...damn someone though that was clever.

Oh, you want me to talk about the beer? Sorry. The colour is golden-amber...an attractive golden-amber. Don’t know the intangible that makes it better all the other "golden-amber" beers out there but it is to my eyes a pretty beer. The aroma is spicy, minty and toasty. Overall the character is moderate for style, with the expected citrus and toast notes, but not particularly chewy. Nothing awesome, but quite enjoyable.

ich amber coloured body with a dense tan head. Aroma of peaches, pine, hops, nutmeg and a slight metallic twang. Medium-bodied; Metallic-bitter flavour starting fresh and finishing short. Aftertaste very bland and unimpressive. Hops and pine in the taste-but not sweetness at all! Overall, not a good beer-especially for the style! I bought this 65 cL bottle from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia and sampled it on 07-March-2004.

2003 bottle. Pours a hearty red/orange/copper/brown/gold/amber, All jumbled together. Hazy, bottle conditioned. Small rich yellow-brown head. Lots of lacing. Good sweet pine resin, some citric alcohol notes. I didnt know what to make of this. Nowhere near as malty as most IIPAs. Malt is a very dry caramel, some toffee. Alcohol surprisingly apparent on finish. Very bitter hops throughout. Orange, bitter grapefruit. Aftertaste does not leave much flavor lingering on. Good, but not exceptional. Improved as it warmed to room temp.

Cloudy copper in color, with a slight white head - very inviting, flowery, perfume-like hop aroma - tastes is pretty "standard" for the style, and is nothing stand out - heavy citrus hop flavor, but it has that moderate malty sweetness to balance it out and help mask the alcohol (a traight expected for an IIPA) - good - not great, and certainly not worth dragging your ass to Alaska for - thank goodness for mail order. ps - great label, though.
