25cL bottle drunk 10/14/24. Seems mostly still. Dark chocolate. No head. Bright, fruity, apple brandy with a healthy mix of prune, tobacco and earthy cacao. Good yeast character on it, with no crude esters/phenols that I can find. Not boozey. Excellent barrel balance without any heavy woodiness or sharp liquor character. Surprisingly mellow all around. Rich and thick, lightly syrupy with a bit of alcohol drying out the finish. Rich malts yet solid attenuation for its size. Prune, raisin, chocolate, tobacco all in good balance. Yeah, probably a bit gratuitous on the alcohol, though it doesn't really bother me. It's not hot, anyways. Just sort of bitter and present. As a strong Belgian ale, it's nice and innovative, attempting the contemporary American Imperial Stout, it seems. Like the Laphroaig version, I think it's a great success. Weird that all these people that give the boozey, thick Imperial Stouts a 4.5 are panning this one.

RBESG 2023, Zagreb Grand Tasting. Thanks! Dark. Intense roasty aroma, alcohol strongly felt, molasses and honey. Roasty flavour, burnt, chocolate and molasses. Very thick, full, moderately drinkable, finishes sweet.

Bottle, 330 ml at RBESG 2023. Black with almost no head. Oily. Dried fruit, quite strong alcohol, strong wood and barrel. Cheers Franco in a better place!

Bottle at RBESG GT 2023. Shitloads of unpleasant boozy warmth, which kinda destroys the supple chocolatey toffeeish maltiness lying underneath. Is this the pinnacle? No, this is the shittacle. You took a perfectly good beer and let it go to ruin in a nonsense barrel. Good job.

Bottled at the RBESG 23 grand tasting. Enormous, ginormous thanks to Travlr who brought it and explained its backstory to us! Pitch black body, almost no head. Enormous aroma - alcohol and chocolate basically, with some caramel. Chocolate-driven dry, bitter taste, qutie a bit of apple schnapps... I mean calvados, and overall just too warming to get more. Still, huge respect!
