The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Pinot Gris grapes were fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

hazy pale yellow colour, practically no head at all; aroma of citric acidy, intensive leather, unripe grape and slight acetone notes; taste is exactly the same; great one - as expected from a Tilquin beer

Bottle 375ml @ Home. Pours almost clear golden with a fizzy short lasting white head. Aroma is tart with notes of malt, funk, white wine, oak and barnyard. Taste is light sweet and medium sour with a dry, tart, funky, white wine and oaky finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to average and carbonation is a little fizzy.

Bottle @ home. Unclear pale golden body under a small, short living white head. Aroma has really an interesting mix of funky lambic and Riesling vine with a hint of oak and lemon. Taste has medium sweet white vine, grapes, tart, funky lambic, oak, lemon and barnyard. Fine body with long lasting acidic aftertaste. Nice and refreshing in taste and also a good showcase for the crossover blend of beer and vine.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2021 vintage bottle. Aroma is lambic forward with lots of earthy, herbal, musky funk. Light grape notes with hints of lemon and stone fruit. Light oak notes and hints of alcohol. Light grain notes. Pours a moderately hazy, pale, yellow straw color with a small, moderately thick, whit head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is somewhat acidic, but not particularly sharp with light grain notes. Light bitterness and light alcohol warmth. Medium light grape notes with lighter notes of lemon and hints of stone fruit. Light earthy, herbal mustiness. Hints of oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid lambic. I'm actually a fan of the fruit being a secondary, background note and letting the lambic shine. The fruit is present, especially in the flavor but the base lambic notes come through really nicely.
