Bottle. Pours clear pale amber with medium white head. Aroma is mandarin, spruce, malt, dried rose leaves and lemon. Taste is medium sweet, medium to very bitter and light to medium acidic. Body is creamy with lively carbonation. Finish is long and mostly bitter with notes of orange, lemon, lime, spruce, malt, caramel, sugar and hints of milk.

Gold pour, thin white head. Nose is like fully green tea and honey suckle. Tastes like sweet green tea. a touch of honey and melon. Not too great but still interesting.

Clear golden with medium head. Butterscotch aroma. Dry, bitter taste at first, then some honey tones. Plain and refreshing.

16.9 oz. clear bottle from The Beer Store, Nashua, NH. A clear bottle, really?? No bottle dating anywhere either. Nose is skunky hops and light caramel. The taste has some sweet pale malt, floral hops, and some light cracker notes. Body is on the light side of medium. Finish is clean and abrupt. I will say that this beer really is nicely balanced. And extremely easy to drink. What Americans have to remember here is this is an English IPA, not an American interruption. It should be more sweet with a subtle hop. I will find this on cask and compare. A nice surprise.

Bottle: Pale amber color with some floaters. Two fingers of fluffy white head. Odd aroma, sort of a pollen like smell... floral and herbal. Tastes herbal, but its abrasive. Sort of skunky... chalky... could be the yeast, could be the malt, could be that its just odd and I don’t like it.

Smells skunky, almost like weed. A little hops and malt but the skunky smell is pretty prominent. Aftertaste has virtually no bitterness - just a little sour. Pours clear golden with a little head and lacing. Meh. Bottle.

Tap at Three Fires. Light grain malt, light vinegar aroma. Golden with a huge off-white head, thick creamy lacing. Light grainy malt flavor. No significant hop bitterness. IPA? I almost thought the barkeep had given me the wrong beer. LIght body, flat carbonation.

Tap. Pours clear light amber with a small off-white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet honey, floral, perhaps grass. Flavor is medium sweet, floral, a bit weird actually, with a medium bitter finish. Not a fan.

Just a little too much of a soapy bathwater flavor or else this one would rate just as well as the English version.

Originally rated November 2006. Another one from Balhaven, just received at the LCBO. Always a pleasure ! Pours a golden-amber colour with a big creamy off-white head that resist to falling down, and when done, remains a nice ring of lace all over. Powerful nose of hop. Very active carbonation of tiny bubbles. Good dry bitterness, without being too sharp. Mild grain malt taste in the finish, but with the bitterness continuing into the aftertaste. Some grassy-citrus flavour is present. Wow ! A very well balanced true IPA from a great Scottish brewer.
