Purchased at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Tuesday night prior to getting a haircut. I’ve never tried a Rogenboog Ale and thought it had to be a fictitious name, so I had to try it! Appearance is a very cloudy red/brown raisin / mud water looking brew with a rich off-white head that is rather prominent. I would say it looks fantastic, one of the more interesting looking beers I’ve seen. Aroma is a very present raisin/plum/slight peach with a unique Belgian yeast that’s in the back end of the nose. Taste is super powerful, and man...raisiny!!! This is the most raisin filled beer I’ve ever had for sure, my eyes opened right up upon first sip. The ABV is less than others I’ve had but it just tastes very potent. This one may be a little too wildly fermented for my tastes. Very happy that I tried it though, and hell if someone had a bottle of it again I think I’d enjoy it again. Oh, also, it is pretty carbonated and I now have a raisin burp which I didn’t think was possible. Overall enjoyable....................................OK, the glass is now half way gone and it’s gotten to the point of not being able to drink it. The flavor is just powerful and it feels like the raisin flavor has gotten heavier. My rating is going down as a result.

11.2oz bottle from Ledgers. I carefully released the pressure with my Kobalt Tools bottle opener courtesy of Ratman and managed not to lose any beer. Nose of darly caramelized candi sugar, sweet golden raisins, and yeast. Hazy brown with a huge beige head. Flavor is yeast, a hint of bitterness, carmelly sweetness, and alcohol warmth.

Bottle. An unclear, orange-golden beer almost without any head. Just some off-white bubbles floating around. The aroma is sourish, almost vinegar-like. The flavor is a little bit better, with more evident fruityness and a touch of spices. There’s also some bitterness towards the end. Medium body, almost astringent. A refreshing beer, but not very good. 091230

330 ml bottle. Dark golden body with a disappearing off-white head. Aroma is malt, brown sugar, slightly spicy, yeast and some acidity. Flavor feels rather light, but still rather strong malt and caramel, a bit sweet and sour with a hint of acid, yeast, spices and a light touch of honey. Also vinous and a pleasant level of oxidation. Nice body, nice balance and very pleasant without been extraordinary.

Dark maroon color with a very large light tan head hat is long lasting and leaves a tiny-bubble lacing. Aroma of dates and caramel, with some light spice and a background of grapes. Immediate butterscotch and toffee with a sweetness that builds to a crescendo level. the finish had a slightly sour edge. Thick and chewy. Odd combo of sweet and sour that takes some getting used to.

24th July 2008. Cloudy brown beer. Manages to be sweet and sour at the same time! Some citrus dryness underneath. Sweetish end. A shade different.

11.2 ounce stubby bottle from Once Upon a Vine, South location, Richmond, VA. Pours a ruddy brown tinted red color with a thin fizzy head. Hazy with small particles absolutely suspended in the beer. Aroma is earthy, musty and slightly tart with notes of caramel, dark fruits and honey. Taste is also fairly tart with notes of cherry, green apple, raisin. Very slight sweetish honey notes. Medium bodied. Tart throughout and twice now I’ve finished a sip with gritty bits on my teeth. Odd one and I’m not sure I’m liking it. I can somewhat see the appeal, but it’s weird and not for me, so I can also understand the disparate ratings.
