Notes from 12/28/2008. 500ml can purchased from the corner Korean market for 79 cents. I note the ever growing BA effect by the label stuck to the back of the can: BALTIKA #1 - Premium ale, crafted with the finest ingredients, is brewed to meet the standards of the most discerning ale enthusiasts. Pours into my pint glass a shade lighter then ginger ale. A floating wispy bleached head reaches & dies just like champagne would. The lightest of remnants floating in between the rush of traffic to the top. Smell is surprisingly pleasant, hinting with wheaty esters of banana & bubblegum. A very faint metallic tone, with a zest-like sense of sweetness overlaying a sparse layer of grain. Taste & feel is seltzer-ish. Ever so slight citric bitterness tarts the grain, numbing my palate a bit, but instills an image of a very refreshing & tolerant beer. Slight, slight caramelization as it warms. It positively lacks much of the headache inducing phenols I find in most low priced Euro lagers. Satisfying. :)

Pours a big frothy head that diminishes slowly. Worty, grainy orange aroma. Grainy, malty somewhat hopbitter flavor. Medium bodied with just a hint of orange and glue. Decent lager, but not an entirely clean palate.

50 cL can from Sam’s Quik Shop. Golden yellow pour with a medium quickly dissipating head. Metallic and corny aroma. Taste is grain, corn, grass. Some metallic notes. Medium bodied. Honestly probably the best Baltika pale lager.

500ml can. A typical pale lager; pleasantly malty aroma, and a grainy flavour. Head disappeared almost immediately, leaving a rather flat looking body.

Can (BB 02/2008)
Very bright pale yellow, almost green, decent white cloudy head. Grassy, a bit vegetably and malty aroma, some sweetness and paper too. Light palate. Slightly harsh malty flavor. Clean but boring light bulk lager. As sayravai mentioned, not far from Lapin Kulta.

Canned. Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is malts and hops. Flavour is malts, slight syrup and some hops. Flavour is malts, some sweetness and a nice hoppy peak in finish. Not very interesting, but quite clean.

2003 or 4 bottle not sure. Pours a pale golden yellow, but not too pale, and it still has a good sparkle to it. Good foamy white head, not ultra clear; not all out filtration. Aroma is quite pleasant, a mix of light straw and grass, with hints of mint, lightly floral hops and a good touch of honey malt sweetness. Flavor is wonderfully refreshing; Light body that actually tastes of good quality malt, it’s flavorful, dosent thin out and not overly watery for the style. Hints of ever so mildly bitter hops. No crappy adjunct tastes, no sharp or skunky tones. Lightly crisp pear rind flavors on the finish. Maybe my new favorite light beer.
