375ml bottle. Buttery vnailla nose, blue cheese, oak, grapefruit. Orange-amber, almost flat. Very creamy blue cheese flavor, vanilla, grapefruit, leather. Low acidity. A very strange one, tons of funky cheese and almost seems like diacetyl. Not bad, but not what I want in a gueze.

375ml bottle at Grote Dorst November 23. Hazed pale gold. Slim lasting white ring. Recall this being oaky tart and fresh feeling overall. Spritzy and lively with lemon peel vibes. Tart oaky finish.

0,375l bottle at home. Lot 20221228. BB 28.12.2032. had to use a corkscrew to get the cork out, then opened with a super loud blob. yellow lightly hazy color, very small white bubbles. smells funky, wood, rather oak forward, some hay, subtle walnuts. nice to very nice smell. full body, rather subtle carbonation. tastes oak, hints of vanilla, nutty, walnuts, light minerality, some hay. finishes dry and lightly sour with notes of walnuts, oak and minerality. very nice one, tastes suprisingly major. good stuff!

Poured from 375mL bottle (bottled 2022/12/28). Hazy gold with minimal white head and some small chunkies. Lighter bodied, flater in character, mild funk, but not quite enough depth, okay.

Bottled Dec 2022. 375mL bottle, pours a hazy golden dull orange with a small white head. Nose is fairly low on the barnyard funk, with some orange zest, a touch of oak, and some leather. Flavour is very musty and earthy, with subtle, subdued funk, gentle oak, very low acidity, some yogurt, and a hint of grapefruit. Not very funky or clean, nor very complex, but it has its charm. Decent, but far from an elite gueuze.

0.375 l bottle from 'Etre Gourmet', 6% abv, best before December 2032, probably bottled a year ago. Minimally hazy, amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, sourish, quite funky and rather fruity aroma of overripe lemon, white pepper, grapefruit, oak and horse blanket. Slightly sweet, quite sour, fairly funky and quite fruity taste of overripe lemon, grapefruit, white pepper, oak, horse blanket and hints of vinegar, followed by a medium long, fairly tart, gently woody-dry finish. Medium body, fairly astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty Geuze, a bit on the sweet side but still quite complex. Good one!

Next to all the fruit lambics released at a rapid pace by the Kestemont family, operating in the buildings of the former Goossens lambic brewery, they have also been working on a geuze, with my sample apparently belonging to a second batch already. From a 37.5 cl bottle with cork which was near to impossible to remove by hand so I had to use a corkscrew. Medium thick, densely settling, snow white, largely closed head (for quite a while before opening eventually) on a misty apricot blonde robe with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma of freshly cut red apple, green plum, rainwater, oak wood (even some vanillin), sorrel, ripe purple gooseberries, minerals, stewed rhubarb, unripe peach, vague background hints of spoiled white wine (or natural wine if you will), urine, farmland and gypsum. Crisp onset, unripe green plum and gooseberry tartness with some wryness to it, lemony edges yet still not too 'neig', minerally effervescence effects but still rather soft for a geuze; rounded body, bready core under heavy lactic tartness in a 'sedate' kind of way, while these sharper green fruit effects travel along. The minerality continues too, accentuated by woody tannins adding a nice oaky aroma retronasally (albeit subtle); lingering unripe stonefruit wryness and hard green apple sourness as well as a 'deep' and earthy old hop bitterish note. After tasting their matured lambic in Leuven, I was curious to find out about this most prestigious of lambic variants by the same producer - and even though this is a perfectly credible, full-fledged 'oude' geuze, it still lacks a bit of depth and complexity to truly stand up against the powers that be in this field. It ticks all the boxes as a 'malse' and very quaffable example of the style, but I think greater heights can be reached, with a more diverse array of acids, more Brett effects and so on - but I think this is indeed a bit too young still and could benefit from ageing, when Brett starts to set in. One to watch - so for now, benefit of the doubt for me.
