Creamy aroma with citrus and cheese. Very hoppy falvor with citrus and butter. Long hoppy finish. This beer is more like a citric hoppy West Flanders ale. The label says it’s a helles bock. (8 3 8 3 14 = 3.6) 2007 version: this beer has changed considerably! Tap, Arendsnest. malty sweetish flavor with roast, hints of cherry, rosebuds and cinnamon, especially in teh aftertaste. malty aroma with rosebuds, licorice and cinnamon. Just a bit sticky mouthfeel.

On tap at the ’Beer Temple’, Amsterdam, 28-10-09 Wonderful hoppy aroma, was told that it was Amarillo or Simcoe but reading other ratings and the commerical description I’m not convinced, whatever they were they really shined. Nice sweet/bitter balance. The hops really do shine lovely, touch of perfume, nice hoppy burst again, really pleasant beer. A8 A4 F7 P4 Ov15 3.8

33 cL bottle at ’t Arendsnest. Pours hazy dakr brown with a deep amber glare and a huge tan head. Sweet caramel malty, roasted and somewhat fruity yeasty too. Sweet malt flavoured with a light wooden dryness. Sweet roasted malt and slight acidic finish with a lasting yeasty impression. Roasted malt flavours appearing into the far finish.

Draught, 7%. Not black, but cloudy orange with a small white head. Fruity aroma, a bit of asparagus, but not bad. The flavour also has some vegetable, and is quite sweet which along with the balancing alcohol gives a nice full body. Quite late bitterness, rather rough, but OK cleansing.

Tap @ BBF ’08. Not sure if this is the same beer, according to previous ratings. Heller bock, hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of hops, cloying sweet malts (very malty!). Flavour is the same, thick sweetness with a rather bitter finish. Not very balanced, not my style.

Bottled
Dark hazy amber-brown, big cloudy off-white head. Wood, yeast and plums in the nose. Medium-bodied. Good fruity yeasty base: plums, raisins, a bit chocolaty. Very carbonated. Alcoholic notes in the finish. Good abbey dubbel kind of bock. I wonder if receipe is different now than in 2003.
