95,000 bottles were produced for 2004’s Vintage, which once again employed a traditional approach, this time brewed with Goldings hops and Maris Otter malt. Distinctive cherry notes are evident, before a warming finish that mellows with age. Also limited availability in the Cask, mainly in the London area.

Deep mahogany coloured body to a shiny surface. Smell of dried fruits and bready malts. Malt-covered raisin, apricot and prunes in flavour along with hints of spices. Dry hopped bitter end. Full bodied, vinous and warming. Very pleasing, however, rather sweet in the long run. Bottle 0,5l, vintage 2004, No. 22398, shared with Finn at White Horse, London 5 Oct 10.

Bottle number 85320 consumed August 2010. Pours a transparent, muddy amber with a clumpy, white head. Smells of figs, raisins, rum, brown sugar, caramel, a little port, just a touch oxidized. Flavor is cinnamon cake icing, brown sugar, vanilla, cardamon, raisins, figs, candied orange zest, port, sherry, sweet sugary icing, cherry cough drops. Finish is full bodied and still a touch sweet.

Bottle #21825: Hazy, foxy-brown, lacy off-white head; solid sweet fruity aroma (dried fruits) with a robust "english" hoppy backbone and a tinge of marzipan; solid, very solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied; increasing hoppiness in the fruity (some liquorice, too and a tinge of alcohol) and toasty finish. Lovely thirst quencher......

(bottle, # 21825) Hazy, chestnut-brown colour with a beige and dense medium-sized foamy head. Sweet roast-malty aroma with notes of caramel, cacao, dried figs, liquorice and a tinge of resiny and slightly woody hops. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a very smoth carbonation. Toasty and chocolatey malty taste with notes of dried fruits, caramel, liquorice and lighter hoppy spices; moderately sweet and toasty malty finish with subtle fruity and hoppy notes. The finish seems to be a bit shorter than that of the 2006 edition I had before. 24.III.10

4th August 2008. Bottle 94057. Very complex aged ale. Caramel dominates the start but there is also a nice sherry flavour. A little milk chocolate in the mid plus red fruit you would find in a decent vintage port. Sumptuous and tasty.

Bottle #92711:
Deep copper coloured body with strong ruby highlights and a very thin tan head that fades very fast. Aroma of malt, toffee, yeast, light hops, alcohol, oak, vanilla and a bit of honeysuckle. Medium-bodied; Strong sweet flavour that goes down like a mellow barley wine, with large cherry flavours really coming through. Aftertaste has a bunch of complexity from oak, vanilla, yeast, toffee and a lot of mellow alcohol flavours. Overall, a nice and rather refreshing potent beer - definitely worth picking up a bottle and keeping it for a few years! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased in late 2006 at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia, aged for three more years, then sampled at home in Washington on 19-June-2009.
