Strong Ale

[500ml bottle from Waitrose.] Copper with a thin ring of white head; malty aroma; subdued malt flavours with some caramel and a dry warming finish. A very restrained and elegant beer.

Flask-type green bottle, 500 ml, produced in E186, purchased at the LCBO savoured on June 26 2008; eye: copper, clear, really good effervescence, voluminous tan head, lots of lacing; nose: alcohol, malt, pepper, light orange; mouth: malt, hops, caramelized malt, bitter hops returns and is more present, vinous, candied fruits, caramel, light molasses, finale in malt on its alcohol backbone, nips the tip of the tongue, mildly bitter, lightly sweet, medium-full body, not much carbonation; overall: correct FRANÇAIS Bouteille verte de type « flacon », 500 ml, produite le E186, achetée à la LCBO, savourée le 26 juin 2008; œil : cuivrée, claire, très bonne effervescence, mousse fauve abondante, beaucoup de dentelle; nez : alcool, malt, poivre, léger orange; bouche : malt, houblon, malt caramélisé, houblon amérisant plus prononcé, vineuse, fruits confits, caramel, léger mélasse, finale en malt soutenu par l’alcool, légèrement piquant su’l’bout d’la langue, moyennement amère, légèrement sucrée, corps moyen-corsé, peu carbonatée; en résumé : correct

A golden amber ale with a rich thick lacing off white head. Aroma of wet dough, treacle and grass. In mouth, a rather grassy malt, lightly sweet, with light nuttyness, and roasted malts. Medium bodied. Bottle marked E186.

Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a medium head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of floral English hops (Golding) is quite interesting with some good malt backbone. Taste is a nice mix between some dry malt and some floral hops, which provide a refreshing bitter, finish. Body is a bit light and less filtration would have provided better enjoyment of my part. This beer was one of the better offering that I had a chance to drink from this brewery.

This ale poured a cloudy dark orange colour with a non existant head. Scents of nuts, sweet malt, spice and chocolate. First taste was slightly hoppy with some ending bitterness. A little smoke flavour and a floral hop. The finish is slightly bitter and the palate is hoppy. Not Bad.

500ml bottle at Jerusalem Tavern. Very nice bottle design (as always with St Peters). Reddish-brown body topped by an off-white creamy head. Pleasant malty aroma. Malty flavour all the way through with support of hops. Medium to full bodied (20.09.2006).

Bottled. Amber colour, small beige head. Plum, alcohol (!) and sweet malts in aroma. Flavour is sweet malts, candy sugar, plum and other fruits. Aftertaste is long sweetness and some malts. A bit lagery.

Bottled. (BB 02/2007). Reddish copper light color, small white head. Fruity, malty, papery aroma. Hoppy, malty, not very strong ale -like. More like woody, a bit alcoholic lager.

(Bottle at Haket in Gothenburg) Clear red brown color, tan head. Dry sweet taste and dry mouth feel. High bitterness. Fresh but bitter after taste.
