Cask @ Blackfriars. Black colour, tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, bitter. Flavour is roasted malts, glue, slightly sour.

Cask. Very close to black colour with small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some dark dry fruits, mild toffee and caramel malts. Flavour is liquorice, roasted malts, some fruits and wooden notes as well. Rather pleasant and quite complex for being 4.5%.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer. Residual tan head. Light crisp palate. Semi dry. Rich dark malt, bitter and somewhat roasty. Undertone of fruit and a little estery bubblegum. Dark chocolate and coffee. Minerals. A little hop fruit. Bitter aftertaste. Tasty and fairly complex.

Cask (gravity) @ National Winter Ales Festival 2009, Manchester, England.Clear dark brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, fruity, light notes of licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090122]

Cask at the Old Manor House (JDW), Bracknell. Black with a cream head; chocolate aroma; creamy chocolate flavour with some coffee and some nuts; strongly bitter to finish. An excellent stout.

Wow! I thought this was one of the best beers I’ve had rescently. It looks great, pretty much pitch black, with a small amount of brown, creamy head. A really nice, burnt aroma as well as some chocolatey hints. A great coffee taste that’s really quite powerful followed by very burnt malts and then a bitter dark chocolate taste on the after. The after-taste stuck with me for hours! Amazing beer!

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2007. Had this in error as the guy behind the counter poured me the wrong beer, but even so this had plenty of malt to keep it going. Very roasted malts, bit powdery in mouth, intense flavours, some dark fruit. Powdery, dry finish.

Cask@Beer Hunters. Very dark brown, steady tan head. Sweet berry-like aroma, slightly toasted malty, hints of brewing mash. Smooth, full-bodied, Guinness-like. Roasted malty, with coffeish and bitter finish. Long bitter aftertaste.
