So far as we’re aware, no one asked us to make our Oatmeal Stout, Hibernator, 3% bigger. We did though, because we wanted to. And we were right. It’s exactly the same recipe as Hibernator, just more… a lot more.

440ml can from LowCostBeer: Just in date when drank on 9th August 2022, while dog and house sitting in Devon. Large tanned head on a dark body. Boozy, malty and very nice! Chocolatey nose and taste, rich, smooth and warming. This is a smoking jacket by a coal fire sort of beer (even though I'm drinking it on one of the hottest days for years).

Can from the Low Cost Beer online shop. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Taste is more of the same. A bit one - dimensional. Expected something a bit more interesting to be honest.

440ml can shared with Paul. Thick black beer with a small tan head. Big roasted malt aroma, flavour is more of the same. Smooth and didn't taste anywhere near its strength

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours opaque jet black with a thick, triumphant tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, rich roasted malts, liquorice, a good depth of chocolate, chocolate cake, fruit cake, plum, date, toffee / caramel, millionaires shortbread, light coffee character and mocha. The taste is firmly dry and slightly bitter upfront, rich roasted malt, toasty, umami, liquorice, nice bitter - sweet character, chocolate cake, nutty, praline, fudge, caramel, some spice, dull smoke, dark/dried fruits, plum, date, raisin, fig, eccles cake and a touch of alcohol (but not 10%) with a roasty finish. Lower end of film body and moderate, foamy carbonation. What's not to like? Rounded and moreish. Nice to not have an imperial stout stuffed full of adjuncts.
