An American style barleywine; we’ve taken inspiration from the OG Stateside brewers generously hopped this beer with Centennial to add a distinct grassy bitterness to pair off against the sweet dried fruit notes brought to the table by the malt bill. Best enjoyed (in our opinion anyway) in a big snifter glass in front of a fire, this beer is another push for us to really expand what we’re capable of as a brewery.

440ml can from Hop Vault, Stourbridge, online. Pours a murky orange-brown with a moderate sized beige head, leaves a nice consistent top. Aroma is yeasty, grains, burnt toffee, light zest, apricot. Taste is sweet, dried fruit, caramel, floral-grassy bitterness Medium to full bodied, smooth, soft carbonation, nice alcohol warmth. Very good indeed.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, March 22. Thanks Jeremy for this. Misty amber, large white head. Prominent resinous aroma. Strong tasting barley wine, sticky, bitter with a marmalade sweetness. Decent.

Monday 7th March 2022, monthly beer exchange in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Usual 5 suspects sharing beers and talking bollocks. 440ml can; BBD 23rd February 2026. Brought to the share by yours truly. I love a good Barley Wine and this fitted the Bill nicely. Hazed amber/orange body, decent beige head on each glass. Pretty sweet with malty molasses leading the nose and taste with toffee/caramel esters and flavours, some mild hop action for balance, but it's not bitter by any means.

Can. Medium haze on this amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Chewy malts, some wet hay notes in there. A little toffee caramel, none too sweet. Ripe orange and bruised orange bring up the back end into a semi dry finish. Lacks depth and tastes a bit ripe. Don't hate it at all, but just feels like a bit of a fumble into barleywine territory.
