Similar to the fan-favorite San Diego Pale Ale .394, this beer pays tribute to Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn and the career-high batting average that he achieved with the Padres in ’94. Hazy .394 showcases an intense hop aroma of tropical fruit and citrus, but delivers a fuller-bodied pour than its predecessor, along with a smooth and creamy finish. It’s a guaranteed hit!

Takeaway from BD Castlegate. It pours hazy bright golden - yellow with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, soft doughy malts, tropical fruits, mango, peach, papaya, passion fruit and a twist of citrus. The taste is crisp, dry, snap of well realised bitterness, green, nip of pine, floury bread, pithy, zesty, grapefruit, tangerine, peachy, mango, tropical fruit punch, touch of peppery spice and light alcohol presence. Finish is firmly dry. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Can chug all day. Hazy, but not sweet and raw.

Poured from the tap @ Alesmith (had to check whether I agreed with mcberko who hates hazies). Hazy blonde gold with small white head. Tropical and citrus hops, no hop burn or yeast soup, decent hazy.

On tap at AleSmith, pours a slightly hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma has gentle chalk, some earthy hops, and bready malt. Flavour is bitter and juicy, with some juicy stone fruit pith, bitter earthy hops, light pine, and bready malt. Clean, dry, and drinkable. It's decent, but regular .394 is obviously better.

Can, 0.355l. Aroma of pine, citrus, passion fruit and cereals. Pours hazy dark golden color with large soapy white head, great lacing and sparkling appearance. Taste starts overripe tropical and stone fruity, following is citrusy, slightly bready and dank, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Not only a number…

On tap @CBC in Dallas. Sam Adams perfect pint-looking glass. Hazy, pale orange, sticky froth. More grapefruit then pith on the nose with a little tangerine. Bittersweet leaning dry. Bold citrus rind, sulfite dust, herbal middle, finish is numbing citrus pith & a half boozy kick. Sizzly soda carbonation. Solid.
