Hazy black, big beige head. Tobacco, fondant, green apple, blue plum, wood, charcoal. Sweet plum, green apple, bitter fondant. Peppery hops, more fondant, boozy bourbon. Full body. Quite boozy but overall balanced, nice.

Imperial stout created exclusively for Billie’s Craft Beer Fest 2023, by one of the trusted names of the American craft beer movement, meanwhile in the hands of Moortgat. Yellowish beige, densely moussy, thinnish head over a jet black beer. Aroma of coffee grounds, cappuccino, dried orange peel, hard caramel, cinnamon, bitter chocolate, whisky, toasted pecan nuts, spicy hints of nutmeg and juniper berry. Sweet onset but nowhere cloying, dried figs and blackberry jam, softish carb, full oily body but not overly syrupy; hazelnutty, deeply black-chocolatey, elegant and rich dark maltiness with toasty edge and even some roasty-bitter coffee in the end, combining with the caramelly and hazelnutty aspects into a mocha-ish flavour. Lovely spicy notes of cinnamon and dried orange peel, accentuated by peppery hops and warming whisky-like alcohol grace the finish. Oldskool U.S. style imperial stout – as expected, but very welcoming in a festival boasting dozens of overly sweet and syrupy pastry stouts as well…

Clear dark brown to black beer, creamy beige head, non adhesive. Aroma: nice, good roast, alcohol, a bit oxidized, quite some alcohol, decent. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, lots of alcohol, cognac, woody. Aftertaste: sweet touch, a bit sourish, lots of alcohol, sugary, a bit off, more alcohol.
