IPA fermented with kveik and hopped with Merkur, Galaxy, Strata and Citra, can bought at De Welkom, Dok's café in de Patershol quarter of Ghent. Thick and foamy, uneven-bubbled and coarse, egg-white, cobweb-lacing, firm and stable head resting heavily on a hazy yolk-yellow beer with apricot glow. Aroma of lychee, green mango, pomelo, freshly cut green kiwi, fresh orange peel and pith, pineapple, granadilla, meringue, dry biscuit, stewed shallot, acacia honey, rambutan, honeydew, jasmin blossoms, Thai basil. Juicy onset, pronounced tropical fruitiness with zingy citric edge, lychee, papaya, pomelo and pineapple notes, sharpishly carbonated with stingy minerally effects but not so much that it distracts from the flavour; rounded, smooth mouthfeel, porridge- and dry biscuit-like pale-ish malt sweetness with a grainy edge, quickly soaked in tropical and citrusy hops, with the Citra bringing sweet orange-like zestiness, the Strata adding dankness, the Galaxy contributing a certain pepperiness and the Merkur accentuating the citrusiness of the Citra. A drying, almost somewhat powdery effect closes this beer's flavour 'parcours', with a long, bit wormwoody but altogether relatively gentle bitterness from the hops, continuing the zestiness and pepperiness while the tropical fruits and dankness fade away - yet everything still remains soft and mild, so that, in combination with the primarily tropical fruit effects in the nose and the turbid looks of this beer, this is by no means a true West Coast IPA but still very firmly a New England IPA - oddly, since Dok usually knows how to produce West Coast style, but then I read somewhere that the West Coast association was a mistake and this was intended as a NEIPA from the start... Whatever the case, this is NE(D)IPA all over again, though admittedly a tad more long-lasting bitter than usual for the style, and certainly a very tasty one, in which the kveik only accentuates the fruitiness of the hops. Another satisfying round of solid, classic Dok IPA quality.

Pours very unclear, hazy, even milky yelloworange. Medium to mediumlarge white stable head. Scent is full, oaty, full intensity, yet soft in character - green, citrus and slightly tropical fruityness from the hops. Taste is well enough bitter, emphasis on the oats (creamy body because of that). Citrus, dank, and full-intense, soft-charactered hop with a spicy lingering backbone and an assertive bitter finish. quite enjoyable !

21/XI/23 - 33cl can @ HoReCa Expo 2023 (Gent), BB: 9/X/24 (2023-1071) Thanks to Erwin, Peter a.o. for sharing today’s beer!

Cloudy orange blond beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: nice, fruity, a little juicy, some tropical fruits, dank hops, very nice. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice, a bit sweet, malty, some caramel, grains, tropical fruits, mango, lovely! Aftertaste: dry, spicy touch, lots of tropical fruits, more mango, very nice one!
