Taster pour at brewery. Hazy yellow, thin white head. Lemony, floral, savory aroma. Taste follows with lemon peel, coriander, sour, sweet. Zippy, lingering, pucker.

Fairly hazy golden coloured body that starts off fairly clear, but shows a lot of haze, especially towards the bottom of the can, with a thick, frothy, perfectly white head, about four to five centimetres tall. Aroma of very robust kettle soured and even spontaneously fermented yeast notes with some grapes, apples, oak, cedar, caster sugar and apricots all noticeable along with a drying, floral and herbal note. Light to Medium-bodied; Crisp, dry and very fruity flavour at first that really shows the peaches, apricots, apples and even some plums, with a light malt and yeast note and some drying herbal and grassy characteristics, but the yeast here is pervasive, in a good way, and adds to the complexity here, without really showing any hops at all and especially no bitterness. Aftertaste shows the crisp and dry herbal, grainy and wheatie notes, but the fruit is the strongest and most pungent, with some nice sweetness and enjoyable tartness coming through, but the yeast hits the most complexily, with oak, cedar and wood foeders all noticeable. Overall, a nice and enjoyable, super crisp and dry beer that definitely shows more of a fruit beer, belgian single, wild ale or even saison more than a pale ale (of any sort), but these are the things that hermit thrush does very well at - making an ordinary style or beer something much more complex and rich. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from the Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 11-April-2020 for US$4,58 sampled at my house here in Washington on 14-October-2020.

Pint can thanks to hershiser2! 10/13/20. Uh oh. Almost a gusher, first pour is all head. Eventually settles into a hazy orange. Heavily funky aroma with notes of apricot, pepper. Taste is pale malt, apricot, stone fruit, pepper, light funk. Medium bodied, mild bitterness, strong tartness.

Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours hazy very pale yellow with a 5hick, foamy white head. The aroma is bright and zingy, loads of sherbet, sour candy, refreshers and dib dab. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, puckering, bright acidity, sherbet dib dab, lemon - lime, sour candy, zingy action and refreshers with a drying finish. Medium body and lively, foamy carbonation. Fun in small amounts, but a bit of an enamel ripper after a while (aka too much acidity). Novel.

Tap. The Archives, Burlington, VT. Opaque, dirty straw colour. Barely a head. Nose has damp grain and wheat. Citric hop. Grapefruit juice. Sour lemon. Smells like a kettle sour. Taste is light, woody and tart. Lots of lemon rind. Hint of bitterness. Clean mouthfeel. Light body. Tart and light bitter finish.
