Poured from 500mL bottle (bottled April 17, 2020; side by side with double barrel bourbon/cognac). Dark mahogany brown with minimal light beige head. Dark fruit forward with a subtle bourbon/cognac underlay. Overall, prefer double barrel a touch more, but this is solid.

Bottle, huge thanks to BillyT. It pours murky deep brown with a quickly dissipating khaki head. The aroma is sweet, intoxicating, oily orange, orange creme, toffee, fudgey, toffee, bourbon soaked oak, roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate brownie and maltesers. The taste is slick, oily, chewy, toothy, bitter - sweet, vanilla, chewy, vanilla fudgey, oily orange, orange creme, peach, bourbon soaked oak, cognac, touch of spice, dried fruits, fruit cake and some warming booze with a drying finish. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and oily mouth feel. Fun stuf. Moreish, quaffable.

Bottled April 17, 2020, drunk May 4, 2023. Clear dark amber. Fleeting, off-white head immediately dissipates. Nose is pretty accurate of the name; bourbon and cognac. Grape rounds things out with spicy bourbon notes and rich caramel, honey and vanilla from the malt. Quite poignant with a ton of raisin, light oxidation and tons of complexity. The softness, and the rich, mineral character are most apparent and there's nothing aggressive here. In the mouth it's massively rich malt showing big raisin, grapey cognac and lighter bourbon. Raisin, fig, plum, prune. It's all there. The bourbon is subtle but it adds an excellent spiciness to the beer. Soft, malty, rich, sweet, but with ample barrel character to balance. On the sweeter side, though, overall. And it gets pretty bready as it warms and breathes.
Extremely smooth, raisins, brown sugar, alcohol, nice.

[9/4/9/4/18=4,4]
