Last year we went to Italy and none of the Italian brewers we visited could pronounce Hop Notch. They alla said “Hoppi Notchi”. Hence we had to brew a Hoppi Notchi beer and that it had to be an Italian Pilsner was a no brainer. The humble pilsner can seem simple but beneath those golden ripples and frothy head is a beer that can be cunningly complex. Italian-style pilsners are sessionable, dry, balanced lager beers with an enhanced European-hop expression from dry hopping with German hops, just adding that little extra pop of that grassy, herbal aroma.

Can 44 cl. ours a clear yellow with a rich if somewhat rough, white head. Lovely and quite pronounced aroma of floral hops. Medium body, sweet malts, slightly fruity and then a solid, finishing bitterness. Excellent! 240625

(Draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, 5 Sep 2024) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty nose with notes of bread, grass and floral hops. Malty taste with bread, citrus, herbs and a balanced floral/citric bitterness. Medium body, with a slight malt sweetness. Tasty and refreshing. Nice one.

Can, courtesy of, if I understood correctly, madsberg, who brought it to Fil, who shared it with Ryan, Michael and me. Slightly hazy golden-yellow body, off-white head. Oxidized aroma, earthy, vegetal. Earthy taste, veggies abound over a dull sweetish maltiness before a dry, lightly astringent finish. Nigh-undrinkable. Oxidation hit this one really, really hard. I mean, I can imagine it being a good beer fresh, but the can, kept in a fridge, felt like it was a year old at least and it's like 4 months old at best, no real traces of hoppy aromatics... If I ever find it fresh, I will rerate, but my biggest regret was finishing the sample by reflex...
