And here is our second attempt at an ultra-light beer, the PETIT BOULBA! The story behind the name is amusing: Brewing in our very first brewery in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw was entirely manual and really exhausting. For lunch, we dreamed of a light and flavorful table beer to quench our thirst... One day, Bernard had the idea to mix a Taras Boulba with an equal amount of sparkling water to make a "small beer". A super refreshing beer that wouldn’t prevent us from getting back to work in full shape! And we decided to call it the "Petit Boulba"...
We reused the name as a reminder of the early days, but of course we made the beer according to a specific recipe. Petit Boulba is a blond beer with only 2.8% alcohol, with a blonde and cloudy appearance due to the use of wheat and oats. Its aroma is very floral, with notes of fresh cereals. On the palate, these aromas develop further and blend with notes of white fruits and fine herbal touches. Petit Boulba is slightly bitter and has a very dry and super refreshing finish

Bottle. HOTM. Hazed pale yellow gold. Drop the lees in and it looks like custard. Super thick egg white foam. Easy 5. Nose has hay. Mineral. Lemon rind. Whisper of brett. Taste is dry and lightly sharp. Mild lemon peel bitterness. Clean and refreshing throughout. Light bitter finish.

A real success. Quite similar to Taras, of course, but more floral, a bit less hoppy, and naturally a bit lighter. 😋

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Caps and Taps. Pours hazed yellow-gold with a billowing, frothy white head. Light sweet flavour, pithy and dry, notes of pale biscuits, lemon peel, light yeast expression, low funk, cereal, straw. Light bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Super clean to finish, notes of dry sourdough, pizza crust, lemon peel, a little grassy bitterness. Highly drinkable.

Can at home, from HOTM online 11/08/24. Moderate haze on a washed out lemon yellow pour topped with a white head. Nose is orange zest, lemon rind, grass, citric tinged straw, light breads. Taste comprises lemon rind, herb, faint mineral bite, grass, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with mellow grassy hop bitterness. Tidy table beer for the meagre ABV.
