The latest addition to Boneyard’s growing family of beers – a 14-percent imperial stout, dubbed Suge Knite, and pronounced just like the infamous gangsta rap producer – is the Evander Holyfield of ales: a serious heavyweight.
Inspired by another oversize stout, the Dark Lord, from Indiana’s 3 Floyds brewery, with whom Boneyard Brewmaster Tony Lawrence previously collaborated on Boneyard’s Cascadian ale, Armored Fist. Suge Knight is a massive beer that Lawrence said took some real coaxing throughout the brewing process. The result is a near masterpiece that is proving popular with people who might not usually reach for a Russian stout at the end of their shift. Stay stout, Bend.

Pours deep black with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma has salty liquorice, mild toasted, sweetness. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has roasted malts, lots of liquorice, salty, seaweed. Very dry bitter finish.

Draught @ Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2015. Aroma has soy sauce, salty licoricer and cocoa. Also rubbery tones. Flavour has soy sauce, cocoa and mild rubbery tones. Feels thin and simple for this ABV. Throat-warming stuff.

Pours pitch black with a sticky brown head. Aroma of syrup, roasty malts, licorice, coffee, wood and ash. Taste is sweetish, heavy and roasty with loads of licorice, soy sauce, dark chocolate and cocoa. Finish is sweet, syrupy and heavy with loads of licorice, some roastiness and warming alcohol. Quite heavy, yet complex.

Imperial stout tasting. I think tom provided this. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts chocolate coffee and black licorice. Taste is as the nose with a nice malt roast and a good kick in the teeth abv.
