Pipkin pale malt, Crystal malt and maltose syrup. Challenger and Goldings hops. Morland’s original yeast. A quite unique, strong, bottle-conditioned ale with an original gravity of 1059, full of flavour and character with a richly malted aroma and a nice, smooth finish. From a blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts, this is a rich and satisfying beer with good presentation. A strongish beer in terms of alcohol, but there’s no bite from this Hen’s Tooth!

Clear bottle, 500 ml, best before 15 9 07, savoured on March 27 2007; eye: copper with reddish reflections, voluminous beige head that falls quite rapidly, really good effervescence, clear; nose: caramel, pepper, Belgian yeast, citrusy, spices, slight perception of alcohol, grassy hops; mouth: in that order, lightly astringent, acridness, alcohol, spices, pepper, light caramel, hops, meltallic finale but even more so acrid, medium body, a bit thin, grainy texture, a bit syrupy, mildly bitter, lightly sweet, good carbonatation; overall: it started well... FRANÇAIS Bouteille transparente, 500 ml, meilleure avant 15 9 07, savourée le 27 mars 2007; oeil : cuivrée avec des relets rougeâtres, mousse beige abondante mais qui tombe assez rapidement, très bonne effervescence, claire; nez : caramel, poire, levure belge, citrique, épices, légère perception de l’alcool, houblon herbeux; bouche : légère astringence, âcreté, alcool, épices, poivre, léger caramel, houblon légèrement râpeux, finale métallique mais surtout âcre, corps moyen, un peu mince, texture granuleuse, un peu sirupeuse, moyennement amère, légèrement sucrée, bonne carbonatation; en résumé : ça s’annoncait bien mais…

Bottled. Amber coloured with lively head and a lot of sediment. Fruity grassy nose. Sweet, ligtly syrupy malt mixes with fruity alcohol and drying salty, grassy hops. Some cookie malt flavour. The body is a bit light, ane leaves a lot of room for alcohol to shine through. Dry, grassy, salty, bitter finish.

Shoot....I should have read the ratings below before opening this sucker...it litteraly assaulted by face and my nasal passages. A nice dark golden orange ale with a thick lacing off white head, but huge ugly floaties at the bottom of the bottle, rather gross.Aroma of Brett assaults you very musty,but pleasant. In mouth, a rather funky Brett malt, wild ferment, some peppery hops. A rather interesting body...Having tasted the Burton Imperial Ale , I would compare this to the Burton. Not bad....but I wish I didnt loose a quarter of the bottle on my face and carpet.

The first one of these damn near exploded as soon as I opened it. Completely filling the bottle with all the yeast in the bottom. The second was much better. A beautiful amber colour with a big frothy off white head. One of the biggest i’ve seen in a while. To the nose its yeasty with fruit overtones. First sip is a little overcarbonated. Flavour of yeast fruit and bitter hops with a little smoke thrown in. The finish is bitter right through the palate with that light smoke flavour.

Huge creamy offwhite shiny lasting head. Brown body with carbonation. Light, faintly citric malty aroma. Sweetish dark caramel taste with strong nutty notes and a touch of wood and metal. A bit low on taste, but good all the same. (0.5l bottle.)

Bottle conditioned. 500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Beautiful amber colour, huge and fluffy head lasts "forever". Lovely hoppy aroma, also notes of red wine vinegar, oak and barnyard. Interesting flavour with a substantial hoppy bitterness, oaky and vinous notes. Relatively dry. Notes of balsamic vinegar too, but the beer is neither sour nor sweet (does that make sense?). A very good beer in my book.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 6 Oct) Amber colour with frothy beige head. Fruity nose with earthy hops (lots of Goldings character) and dark citrussy notes (blood oranges). Fruity taste with dried fruit and nice notes of earthy hops. Rather sweet, but the lovely hop character makes it a nice one.

On bottle at Tromsø Ølfestival 17 Aug 06. Cognac-like colour. A large creamy head. A sourish citric flavour. Some hints of caramel. A dry bitter finish. The overall impression is sourish. Refreshing and a bit different.
