Bottle shared at the CBJ tasting, thanks to Kenneth, 12/06/24. Slightly unclear chestnut brown with a beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is earthy dried fruit rinds, musty brown bread, toffee, stewed fruits. Taste comprises fruit rinds, modest oxidisation, brown bread, toffee, herb, biscuits, dates. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Has held up well for the age.

Bottle at the craft beer junction bermondsey tasting. Many thanks to Kenny for this one. A dull nut brown coloured pour with a halo of beige head. Aroma is earthy, autumnal, brown leaves, grass, brown sugars. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, dusty, figgy, pud, dried fruits, brown sugars, dusty age. Held up well. Palate is semi sweet, sticky, oily, mellow carbonation. Ok.

500 ml bottle sampled in 2010. Hazy amber body with floaters and a fast disappearing beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, syrup, dry fruit, moderate bitterness and warming alcohol. Full body and sweet aftertaste. Very sweet, but not bad. A fine sipper.

Finally popping this thing since madmitch76 generously shipped it to me across the pond mid 2009. The half liter brown glass bottle pours clear amber with a nice full tight tan head. I would not have guessed this big well aged organic beer could deliver such a nice head of foam. Speaking of age the bottle states the best buy date is December 2010. This is being consumed December 2011. Hmm. Has it gone bad? So far so good. The modest aroma is sweet with honey coated Gala apple wedges and faint hints of plum and fig. The aroma seems to have held up without any issues. The taste is rich yummy sweet English Barleywine goodness with caramel, sweet ripe Gala apple wedges, brown sugar and a light oxidation sherry like note. So the extended age shows a tad bit of oxidation which for me improves the experience as I love that. Darn tasty brew. I hope I can swing getting the newer versions of this series some day.

2010-08-21, bottle from Pig’s Ear 2008, brewed in 2007, 3 years old, 6-4-7-3-15=35
Dark amber color; very small head. Light malt aroma. Good caramel flavor, well balanced, with a little alcohol but overall hiding well the ABV. Tasted side to side with the original version, it has more complexity, in the flavor, but it loses something with the aroma.
2009-05-29, bottle courtesy of Theis, brewed in 2007, 2 years old, 6-4-8-4-15=37
Hazy dark amber color with red shades. The aroma is strongly vegetables. It has a quite good malt and caramel flavor, sweet, solid, with a good bitterness. Warming alcohol. Pleasant, and not showing signs of age.

4th December 2007 Pigs Ear Festival, Hackney. Sweet toffee and with lovely notes of Port. No bitterness. Very well hidden alcohol. Lip smacking and gorgeous! 2011 Note - the best beer Pitfiled ever did imho. Still have a few of these aging away.
Gosh, 17 years pass quickly. More oxidised of course but still rich in the dried fruits department. Good caramel - toffee. Still very drinkable. .

Bottle, from trade with Papsoe. Some microfloaties swirl in an else clear, copper colored body. A small, diminishing head sits on top. Some alcohol, as well as dried fruits, dark malts and sugar on the nose. Sweet, warming and full bodied with a good bitterness. Dried fruits and some licorice blends in. The flavor lasts for a good while, being more bitter in the end. Although a bit on the warming side, this is a nice and pleasant beer, but definitely not a thirst quencher. 100917
