Bottle. Pours clear dark ruby / copper brown with stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with notes of yeast and touches of fruit. Bitter flavour of hops, with floral and fruity notes and touches of caramel malt. Bitter and acidic aftertaste with notes of malt and yeast. A nice one.

Bottle, 7.8%. Good brown sugar aroma. Seemingly clear dark brown colour with a red shine. Big stable creamy light brown head. The flavour starts off sweetish with a mild brown sugar note. There is a little dark bread and some spicy sugar and a faint metallic note in the finish.

One of many (primarily Western Flemish) WW I remembrance beers, a dubbel (confusingly named 'dubbel-tripel') by Strubbe, accidentally encountered in some random pub in Antwerp, shared by Craftmember. Very thick and frothy, egg-white, lacing, very stable and moussy head over a dark bronze-brown beer with burgundy hue, darker than average for a dubbel. Aroma of hard caramel candy, strong iron (head stabilizer), dry tea bags, tree branches, coriander seed, old coffee grounds, walnut shells. Sweetish onset with light sourish edge, dried berries and figs but in a very subdued way, fizzy carbonation; straightforward, cereally and caramelly maltiness, dryish and with a clear, bothersome metallic edge, simple herbal hop bitterishness in the finish with toasty malt bitterness accentuating the hops. Not too sweet in comparison with many 'commercial' dubbels, but still rather thin, simple, bland and metallic, hardly a tribute to the brave men who perished at the front lines in both World Wars.

Deep amber brown colour, tall creamy beige head, good retention and lacing. Rich aroma, toasted malts, candy sugar, candied cherries, plum, raisins, spicy notes, hint of cocoa, bit woody. Complex taste, medium to light heavy sweet and light medium bitter, sourish touch, toasted malts, dark fruits. Sweetbitter aftertaste, malty, alcohol and spicy notes, wood. Full-bodied, oily texture, average carbonation, complex brew with rich wine-like aroma and flavours, still a bit sharpish so it seems interesting to see how this kind of barley wine ripens over time.
