Bottle. Pours dark golden with a small creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts with caramel, toffee and butterscotch, as well as some whiffs of smoke. Full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with roasted malts, caramel, bread and butterscotch, with caramel, some smoke and hoppy bitterness are apparent in the finish. Probably a nice beer, but with some fermentation issues.

Well sorry Mr Vaaland, someone have really spoiled your celebration. At first I thought that this would be nice. The brew have a really nice cloudy amber pour with a fine tan head. Really inviting. The rest spoiled the celebration. Both aroma and flavor was dominated by some sour notes and butterscotch. If I want to have some butterscotch I go to my favorite place in Oslo. They have loads of it. So this was a big disappointment. Nothing I will recommend anyone.

Bottle A hazy, dark golden to amber beer topped by a small, dense, white head. The aroma has too much butterscotch, with caramel malts and a faint fruity touch. Some fruityness and a strange almost spiced touch. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Semi-dry, with flavors of toffee and diacetyl, and a little fruityness. Short finish with toffee and diacetyl. Not the first Balder beer with diacetyl problems, hope it’s the last. Pity a beer like this ends up as a celebration ale. 140509

14.04.2014, 0,33l bottle @ home:
Small shortlasting head. Aroma is loaded with diacetyl, butterscotch, caramel malts, nuts, burnt caramel, cardboard, almonds. Taste is pretty much the same, butterscotch, burnt caramel, nuts, caramel malts, hay, almonds, paper. Medium bitterness, buttery mouthfeel. Crap!!

Delt flaske på Sigmunds hytte, april14: pen klar kobherfarge med kort skum. Beskjeden aroma og uinteressant smak. Litt diacetyl. Heldigvis kort ettersmak. Men gøy å være nr.3 til å rate denne!

330 ml bottle from Vaaland. A pretty clear dark golden/amber body with a stable, medium sized off-white head. Aroma is quite mild malty and unfortunately a hint of butterscotch. Flavor is mild, sweet malty, caramel, relatively fruity and moderate in bitterness with some butterscotch. It’s actually quite promising as a sweet and rather tasty lager, but I’m quite sensitive to diacetyl so this is not a good one for me, sorry.
