Very dark clear red beer with a thick, foamy head. Aroma is bitter, earthy malt and maybe a touch of coffee. Quite a dry flavour. Malt, chocolate, a dash of sweet nerries. Finish is malty. Feels a bit watery in the mouth which is a shame.

Bottle from LIDL. Dark brown in colour, with a slight, beige head and touch of carbonation. Some plum fruits, toasty malts, and touch of caramel before a short, dryish finish. Fine.

Bottle. Lickle. Clear, dark red. Film of tan. Bit of roast. Some nut action. Taste is light sweet. Palate is dry, thin, and greasy, all at the same time. Don’t like this one. Mouthfeel is nasty.

500ml bottle at home into an Abbot Ale badged glass pint tankard on 26th Nov 2015. Not a lot of purple about but the body did look OK, reddy brown and clear, the head an off-white affair. Malty front with a good bitterness from the hop content contributing nicely to the flavour. Bit of vanilla like esters in the nose and taste, along with chocolate hints ingrained into the blend. Not bad at all for the dosh: another good value effort from Lidl.

50cl bottle from Lidl, Crowthorne. A dark chestnut colour with a thick cream head; aroma of powdered chocolate; milk chocolate taste to start with some purple fruit and licorice, and a pleasant lingering bitterness; with a dry, warming finish. A pleasant porter.

50cl bottle. Appearance - amber-bron with a decent head. Nose - toffee mainly. Taste - toffee, nuts, cereal. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy sticky texture and a decentish finish. Overall - a bit of a sweet version of the normal bitter. A bit Scotch Ale-ish. Oh, dear, it was supposed to be a porter?
