We’ve gone very much back to basics for our 2024 BIPA entry, Which Pendant? Our exploration of what hops and combinations work well in this cult classic style is never ending; and for this beer we decided to utilise a hot side addition of Vic Secret for a brash piney base layer, before more Vic Secret and Citra on the cold side bring a punchbowl of citrus, bright orange and pineapple to the party. Utilising our standard Polly’s Pale and Hoppy grist bill with a flourish of Crystal and Carafa Special at the end of the mash, this beer sings with the usual Polly’s checklist of tropical IPA notes, presented in a defiantly dark beer.

Can at home shared at home. Dark brown to black color, medium sized tan to mocha colored head. Aroma is malts, hops, soft to moderately roasty. Nice. Flavor is malts, soft to medium roasty, nicely hoppy, pleasantly hoppy and roasty bitter. Well, I'm impressed! This is a very good black IPA. And those are rare. Lovely!

440ml can. Almost black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate malts, pine, citrus. Taste of dark, chocolate malts, roast, pine, citrus, found this to be a bit sweet for a BIPA, some bitterness but not enough really. Medium bodied. Pretty decent but they've done better before.
