A ramped up version of our Robust Porter, this beer spent a year ageing in oak vats. The finest Maris Otter, roast and crystal malts give rich coffee and chocolate notes. Warming alcohol makes this a new fireside companion for the winter season.

(Draught at King's Arms, Bethnal Green, London, 23 Nov 2024) Black colour, with hints of ruby when seen through light. Foamy beige head. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity nose with chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, oak wood and a mild roasty bitterness. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Slightly vinous and woody hints of old ale. Complex and well balanced. Very nice.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from BS online. Pours clear, deep brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Medium sweet flavour with notes of leathery dark fruits, chocolate, raisins, earth, damp wood. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Wonderful balance to finish, soft roast, more earthy hops, dried and leathery dark fruits, berries, a nip of funk, cocoa. Superb.

Can. Burning Sky online. Clear dark brown. Slim and sticky leggy beige head. Pretty figgy and woody. Bit of damson and sweet ripe plum. Hint of cocoa powder. A little ashy. Taste is dry and bitter with some fruit sweetness. Very dry mouthfeel. Dry and bitter finish.
