Rye Stout presents the earthy flavor of rye in a stout package. Roasted malts are definitely present, but the dark chocolate aspect is favored over coffee notes. Lighter than several in the Bell’s stout portfolio, Rye Stout remains a full-bodied beer.

Bottled at Akkurat, Stockholm. Black with creamy beige head. Burnt aroma of bread and prunes. Dryish with a surprising fruity touch. Medium bodied with spritzy mouthfeel, light notes of nutes and blackberries. Doesn’t have the roastiness usually associated with stouts. Lightly salty finish. Surprising in every aspect.

Bottle. Smokey rye malt and coffee aroma. Pitch black with a moderate head initially that quickly disappears. Nice creamy coffee and light rye flavor with a smokey finish. Light palate but I really like it that way. Excellent but rather light stout.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is hard to pick up but I do get some chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a bit weak for a stout but again there are some dark chocolate and coffe notes. Not the best by bells.

Pours a dark brown with minimal light tan head. Aroma is roasted and malty with earth tones and spices. Not all that pleasent of an aroma actually. Flavor is roasted malt and some coffee as well as rye and wood. Mouth is medium in body with no bitterness in the short finish. Not the best Bell’s I’ve had. A little on the plain side, though its not bad.

Bottle and rerate (batch 9370). Similar to the previous rating with these changes: aromas lack a \"sourness.\" Instead, they are earthy and nutty with detectable rye. Flavor seems to be sweeter... no longer a bitterness. This sweetness seems to bury a little bit of the rye presence, though. All I can think this time is that I would LOVE to try a barrel aged version of this... (I made no changes to the numbers.)
Looks just like a good stout, dark, tan head, etc. Smells a little off... sour, earthy aromas of peat and minimal chocolate undertones. Rye is present in flavor, and then gives way to burn malt and bitter chocolate. Finally ends up with a cream flavor that dissipates quickly. Could finish a little stronger, aftertaste is pretty brief. Different.

Thanks to Pailhead for this one - kind of like a mildly spicy version of the kalamazoo stout - a little thinner - some tartness and background rye, grain, nutmeg - interesting, but one of the weaker-flavored stouts they make.

Thick black pour with tan head that quickly turns into a rim of foam. The aroma is filled with rye and burnt malts. A slight musty odor wafts from a quick swirl of the beer. Burnt, somewhat bitter malts and rye dominate the taste which also has hints of coffee. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a charred flavor. Medium to full body.

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with lots of alcohol combined with notes of oranges, and chocolate, as well as hints of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with ntoes of coffee, roasted malt, lemon, as well as hints of prunes and alcohol.
