This Black Lager is a compendium of all the styles, it the rich creaminess of a Czech tmavy, the roasted malt edge of a classic Schwarzbier, the underlying hop character of a Franconian dunkel. It will remind you of a good stout, but the 8 weeks of lagering time also give this beer the smoothness and drinkability you would expect from all the Braybrooke lagers.

Tap to bottle from lowcostbeer.com. Pours black with small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, bread and butter pudding, brown sugars - nice. Taste of roasted malt, caramel, sultanas, char, liquorice, nice long bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Easy to drink yet full of character. Delightful beer.

330ml bottle purchased from Beers of Europe and drunk at home. Pours very dark brown, almost opaque with a small loose beige/khaki head. Light aroma of stone fruit, some berry, notes of Ruby chocolate. Sweet, sweet taste, but not too sweet, some chocolate notes with bit hits bof blueberry. Slight bitterness in the finish, with a touch of fruited caramel in the aftertaste. Gentle body with soft to medium carbonation. This is really a magical lager.

330ml bottle, thanks to Mark for procuring this from the brewery! Quaffed while watching England lose to Spain in the Euros. Pours dark, as promised, lovely dark cocoa shades, grainy feel with bready moments. Excellent dark lager.

Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from All Good Beer HD. Pours clear brown with a foamy, tan head. Lovely stuff, nice burnt caramel, brown bread, a little earth and toffee. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with a bit more earth, cocoa, toasted toffee, nips of raisin. Great beer.
