The best of both worlds – a complex dark malt base combined with a heavy addition of juicy American hops. Malty, biscuit, coffee notes accented with citrus, mango, stonefruit character for a dark beer with a difference. Starting out as a winter special, our Black IPA was so popular it’s joined our core beer lineup!

Sample courtesy of Grumbo, cheers Graham! Dark brown colour, beige foam head and aroma of roast malt, smoke, caramel, and zesty citrusy hops. Taste is malty, roasted, caramel, smokey, chocolate, along with fruity citrus, zest, pine, and resiny hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, hoppy & roasted bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Can. Hazy deep amber brown beer, a big healthy pale tan head. Airy palate, fluffy. Good superfine minerally carbonation. Nice airy creamy sweet malts, a delightful light bodied touch of dark chocolate. Cooling pine into juicy hop fruits, slightly ripe but bright orange. Broad spectrum hop fruits. Mild hop spice. A little candy fruits. Airy finish. Juicy tasty Black IPA. A little thicker in the dark malts department would be good but, that is a nit pick on the best CDA I can recall for several years.

440ml can. Pours a very dark brown with a beige/tan head. Aroma of chocolatey dark malts, berry fruits, some muted pine and citrus peel. Taste is a bit hoppier than the aroma suggested, much more pine and grapefruit here with some berries too, all on that rich chocolatey cocoa powder malt base. Medium bodied, bittersweet. Really nice malt and hop balance here. Nicely done.

Panda at home, thanks to the Bearded Avenger, 07/11/2025.
Lighter shade of black topped with a lasting khaki head.
Nose is dried red berries, cocoa powder, dark malts, brown bread.
Taste comprises light roast, cocoa powder, dark malts, cola cubes, dried red berries.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spattered with earthy hop bitterness.
Not bad.

Can bought at Blas ar Fwyd, Llanrwst. Opaque dark brown. Thick foamy frothy light beige head. Had a herbal, coffee berry bitterness with a tangy to it and underlying creaminess. Flavourwise there's initial fruit sweetness and sour berries. The latter then develops more presence alongside herbs and espresso. Underlying chewy malts and some creaminess. Light. Thin bit benefits from lively soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Lively fruity BIPA. Nice enough. But a tad too fruity for me.
