Can at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. As Abbey Brune, 7.3%. Pours clear brown with a tame, creamy beige head. Medium sweet flavour with notes of toasted sugars, berries, plum, brown bread, a little yeast, candi sugar. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Sweet and malty to finish, more semi-dark fruits, berries, toasted bready malts. Very tasty.

Can from Against The Grain. Hazy ruby/brown body with a beige head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cherry pie (as mentioned on the can) and nutty malt. Flavour of caramel, fig and stewed apple. Medium to full body with a smooth, slightly chewy mouthfeel. Light fizz. A rich, warming beer. I really enjoyed this.

440ml can from Ebenezer's, Crewe. Pours a deep dark brown, thin off-white head that almost fully recedes. Dark candy rock toffee sweetness on the nose. Appealing dubbel sweetness overall, dark candy rock forming much of the character but lacks a little life unfortunately. Not many non-trappist breweries pull off a Belgian dubbel, and although enjoyable, falls just short of the mark.

Can. Murky chestnut brown. Flimsy pale beige head. Nose has some fresh manure. Biscoff biscuits. Light toffee notes. Yeasty brown bread. Taste is sweet and lightly dry. Thin and watery. Sweet thin nondescript finish. Wow. As much as I like SMOD, I can’t find much good to say about this.
