This beer was a long time in the making – a barley wine aged for 2 years in oak barrels at our Bermondsey Vault. The long maturation has allowed it to really develop, round, and acquire a tannic hit of oak to balance out the weight of the beer. It’s also the first in a series from the Vault that we hand bottled (of course bottle conditioning) to allow it to continue maturing nicely in your cellar for however many years you choose. No one wants a dusty can, but a dusty bottle seems to have a bit of mystery to it, so grab some bottles while you can – some to enjoy now and some to age further.

375ml bottle, 2022 vintage. A bit over 2 years of ageing it myself in the bottle. Pours a clear reddy amber, small beige head. Aroma of oak, dark fruits, toffee. Taste is also very oaky, tannic, dark fruits, toffee, lightly warming, not overly sweet or bitter. Medium bodied, smooth.

Bottle shared at CBJ - big thanks to Kenneth. Cheers! Pours mostly clear red-amber with a creamy, off-white crown. Lightly sweet, very woody, dry, ample old and leathery berries, booze. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Dry and quite woody in the finish, lightly warming. Decent gear on the whole.

CBJ Bottleshare. Bottle thanks to me. Hazy amber beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Light malts, a little creamy sweetness. Tangy toffee and caramel, not that sweet. Tangy fruity whiskey, slightly bitter. So me ripe red fruits. Light and semi dry finish. Quite an old fashioned barleywine, not bad.

Bottle at home. Spiel seems to suggest just barrel aging rather than brett added but this has lots of (unintentional?) Funk. Pours deep orange amber, nose is all funk vanilla, marmalade, taste is juicy citrus, funk, oak, cheesy.

Bottle shared by Jeff, thanks! Pours a near clear burnt orange with a gold hue and white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains and toffee with a bit of oak and booze underlying. Flavor has boozy sweet grains and toffee with a bit of bread and caramel underlying.

375ml bottle from Chez Sophie. Pours a misty mahogany amber, sparse bubbles atop. Aroma brings barley wine toffee, cellar must. Taste delivers lovely oaky toffee leanings, curious aged sweetness, cellar dust.. light bodied and certainly drinks well for 10%. Could perhaps do with a bit more conditioning but fine overall.
