There is nothing quite like the comforting aroma that fills the home when baking with family. Inspired by late nights in the kitchen with Mom, Goose Island employee Paul Spiller sought to capture that sweet moment in this year’s newest member of the Bourbon County Brand Stout family.

2024 Bourbon County Brand Macaroon Stout is an imperial stout aged for a full year in bourbon barrels before adding rich cocoa nibs, sweet candied ginger and toasted coconut. This decadent stout is an homage to the flavors of homemade coconut macaroons with a twist of nostalgia.

Bottle.

A- Black color, opaque liquid, minimal brown head.

A- Chocolate sauce, toasted coconut, ginger.

F- Coconut, chocolate, sweet, light ginger.

T- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, sweet finish.

O- Lots of chocolate dipped coconut candies. I honestly never get tired of BCBS and they always seem to meet expectations. A bit sweet but nice. This one had a year of age on it. Flavors were great.

6oz pour at Appalachian while shopping. Cheaper per oz than the bottle.

Stemless & inky black, wispy tan ring of lace. Sticky, crystalized legs.
Boozy, brown sugar, heavy vanilla & cocoa nose.
Toasted & blackened coconut & enriched bread, rather than oily & potent. Burnt raisin. Semisweet. Sugar Cookie finish.
Thinner than expected, rich but kinda acidy middle to tail. Slight tannic popsicle stick feels on the final.

Good not amazing.

On draft as part of a flight at Global Brew, Evansville. Typical BC look. Aroma is strong bourbon, coconut, earthy malt. Taste is strong coconut, bourbon, toffee, dark fruit and earthy malt. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste with faint alcohol astringency. Smoother and alcohol better covered than others I’ve had today. Dig it.

16.9 oz. bottle. Pours black, with a big, rocky, brown head. The nose is dark chocolate, surprisingly hot ginger, coconut cream, and butterscotch toffee. Sweet and sugary, with a burnt, sticky bitterness. Heavy body, syrupy and thick. Kinda hot. Aggressive and interesting.

Poured from a 2024 vintage, 500 ml bottle.
Aroma is malt forward with lots of chocolate and roast notes along with some dark caramel, toffee and burnt sugar. Moderate notes of cacao nibs and coconut with hints of ginger. Medium light bourbon and alcohol notes.
Pours jet black with a small, thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers. No lacing and long legs.
Flavor is fairly sweet with lots of chocolate and dark caramel notes along with some lighter roast and toffee. Moderate bitterness and medium alcohol notes. Moderate cacao nib notes with light coconut and faint ginger. Medium light bourbon and light oak notes.
Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a decent barrel aged stout with nice malt notes. The bourbon character is nice. The coconut is a bit oily, but the flavor is nice and not like sun tan lotion. The cacao compliments the malt notes. The ginger is light and well balanced.
