This beautiful straw colored ale has a light malty body, balanced with pine and grapefruit hop character from early additions of Cascade and Chinook. Late loads of dank Summit and Citra in the whirlpool provide an aromatic and deliciously quenching finish to this East meets West Coast IPA.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear orange-amber color with a large offwhite head. Good head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of sticky resiny hops with some citrus and a well balanced caramel malt backbone. The taste is bitter resiny hops, citrus, apricot and melon, with caramel in the background. Medium bodied with quite a bit of hop bitterness that lingers. Good beer. This brewery has barely been in Virginia a week and they’re already impressing me a great deal.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Chevy Chase, 2/26/10

Aroma: Mostly citrus hops (orange, grapefruit), some caramel notes
Appearance: Slightly unclear orange color, large, frothy white head, leaves a good amount of lace
Flavor: Taste is moderately sweet, citrus hops, caramel malts, with a quite dry finish
Palate: Light-medium body, a little bit on the creamy side, mildly chewy, average (plus) carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid IPA. Rather on the dry side, but I'm good with that. It has a decent feel to it, and it works pretty well. Solid stuff. Slight metallic feel, but doesn't take much away from it. Anyway, if you enjoy a citrus hop IPA with a strongly dry flavor, then this one is a pretty good idea.

An amber IPA with a thin creamy off white head. A good intense floral hops aroma, citrussy ad almost meaty. In mouth, a good IPA with resinous floral hops, mentol, warning alcohol. Warming and smooth IPA, a nice example of the style, complex and lively. On tap at Cisco Brewpub, Logan Airport, Nov. 15 2009.

Very strong offering here. Had some on tap at Rattle n Hum in NYC. Pours a nice orange hue with a medium, white head. Very hoppy nose with hints of flowers and citrus fruits. Flavor is deeply hoppy. Nice lip-smacking, bitter finish.

Bottle at RBESG 09 Sheffield. Cloudy gold, thick rocky beige head. Just too yeasty, metallic and gushing. Jesus, tha’s hoppy. Hop juice. Even for me that was just too hoppy.

Bottle @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. Golden color, huge head. Grapefruit and red berries and oily hops in the aroma. Earthy hopbitter flavor with grapefruit. Too harsh, especially in the finish.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Hazy orange colour, big white head. Big citric hoppy grapefruit aroma. Flavour is extremely bitter, citrus, grapefruit, fruity, melon, a bit cloying. Drying bitter finish. A bit too aggressive imo. Medium bodied.

i gave high marks for my surprise, I wasnt thinking this was going to be all that remarkable, but it really is, a great IPA, not on the same tier as some Cali IPA’s but a worthy contender.
